I have an audition for marymount manhattan this weekend, and I usually have "I Can Cook Too" from On The Town and "Quiet" by Jonathan Read Gealt, but I am just learning that MMU looks for songs from a "standard musical theater repertoire"

Somebody please help me with a song that is not overdone but is not too obscure. I am a belter who usually sings songs such as So Much Better (Legally Blonde), On My Own (les mis) and All That Jazz (chicago), all of which I know are too overdone but just to give an idea of my voice!

I would say “I Can Cook Too” would qualify- On the Town is very much standard musical theater. The only problem is- I just opened a revival on broadway (literally) and isn’t the rule of thumb don’t do songs from show currently on broadway? Or does that only refer to new musicals?

My advice for this weekend is that you are better off sticking with something already in your repertoire, even if you are concerned that it is not quite what they are looking for.

I agree with MT4Life - if Marymount runs auditions the same as last year, you will sing in front of all students who are there to audition; you will want to be comfortable with your selection…
