Has anyone auditioned at Hartt yet? Whats it like?

I had my audition for Hartt this morning in LA. I was in a group of five people for the dance audition (in a teeny room!). The dance, compared to Emerson, was pretty difficult. Very Fosse-esque, it seemed, though to West Side Story music. Luckily, though, the choreographer did it wih us the entire time, because it was a fairly sizeable portion that we only ran over like four or five times. Then there was time to change, and we came in one at a time and presented our songs/monologue to a panel of three, and they ask you a couple questions. Overall, it was really quick, and you don't really get a feeling one way or the other. The choreographer was really nice, though.

what about at the school itself? has anyone auditioned there?

I had a great experience when I auditioned at Hartt in January. A lot of this echos what beastar says, but my experience was just a little bit different. The dance audition was much tougher than I expected. First we did barre work, then ballet floor work (mostly little jumps and stuff I know the name of but can't being to spell for the life of me), then the aforementioned fosse-esque West Side Story combo. One thing I loved about the audition was that I really enjoyed myself. It seemed so much more like a dance class than an audition. Unfortunately, I had almost no time between the end of the dance and the start of my singing/acting audition and looked horrible and spilled make-up on my sweater in a fast-fix. The actually audition, however, was plesant and non-intimidating. The panel who observed the audition was composed of two men, one of which I know was the music director, the other of which was an acting teacher. My audition was also quick, but I definately felt some good vibes that I hadn't felt toward the school before.

Basically, this school, I think, is somewhat underappreciated. This could lie in the fact that U of Hartford itself is just an ok school. Hartt actually feels, to me, like another school entirely. However, I will admit, it was dead last on my list until I actually checked it out. That being said, it's not Carnegie Mellon, but it's certainly rising in the world, and, now, if that's where I ended up, I don't think I'd feel like I was settling.
