<p>Has anyone that will be living in the residence halls this year received any info. regarding move-in day on Sept. 19?</p>
<p>Also, does anyone who has lived on campus in previous years have any advice/tips/comments about moving in?</p>
<p>Living off-campus now. I’ve been an OWL every year - mostly for the perk of moving in early and getting settled before everyone shows up. (You can pay ~$30 extra to move yourself in a day early, if you want. You get to use the bins the OWLs use.)</p>
<p>Basically, you’ll be directed to pick up your information and keys (probably at the Schott.) Then you’ll drive to campus, where you’ll wait in the car in a line. It might be good to bring a snack or something to read at this time. The OWLS will unload your car into large bins marked & locked with your room number. If there’s anything fragile/valuable, you’re welcome to carry it up yourself: feel free to ask. You’ll meet the bins at your room - sometimes the elevators are backed up and there can be a wait. I would send the kid up to the room while you park. Then you unload the bins and send them back down. </p>
<p>It’s all very orderly and organized. That said, patience is necessary because of the sheer number of people moving in. The earlier you can arrive, the better you’ll beat the traffic. It’s also nice not to be moving in at the same time as the other roommates, and to be having lunch during the afternoon rush.</p>

<p>definitely time your arrival with roomie…hard enough to move in without bumping into another group of people in the same small space. dd did OWL, but even if not, would’ve asked for early so we could head home after lunch as roomie local so moved in later in afternoon.</p>

<p>The earlier, the better as far as moving in goes. I was an OWL last year and I’m an OWL-coordinator this year. I’d say anytime before 11 is the least crowded; we literally had no one show up between 8 and 9.</p>
<p>At my daughter’s freshman orientation, I thought someone said that information about move-in day would be MAILED to us in late August. We haven’t received anything yet - has anyone else? I don’t remember who said it, but I jotted down a note about it. I think they also said it would be one of the last things we’d receive from OSU through US mail - mostly email communications otherwise. </p>
<p>We’ve seen the move-in information on the OSU website, so we’re not completely clueless - just wondering if we missed a mailing.</p>
<p>dd working on campus just put move-in packets together today for dorm she where she works so likely mailing tomorrow. If I remember, it’s parking directions for arrival and timeline of what to do first, then go here, etc ending up with drop off gear at dorm and where to park while setting up room.</p>

<p>I was wondering if we should expect something mailed to us that tells us where to go to drop off my son’s stuff? I was told we would have to hang something from our rearview mirror and an owl would watch for it. Maybe this is something we pick up at the Schott??? I have all of his stuff spread all over my living room right now. He thinks I will over pack… I don’t know if I am or not. Does anyone know if the beds in Lincoln are loftable? Any unusual items he should bring that he might not think about?</p>

<p>I am in Columbus right now while my DS attends Camp Buckeye. My DS is an OWL but before his RA realized it he called our home and gave my DS a time for move-in on the 19th. As part of OWL (which they said is the same for the 19th) my DS received in the mail an envelope from housing that contained a large round parking pass to be hung from our review mirror. The front of the pass has his hall and says to turn it to thefront so OWL’s can see it. After we drop off his stuff in the loading zone we then have to turn the pass to the other side which indicates a parking garage. Also inside the envelope is a card with a map of the pathway for driving to the dorm and parking garage and the backside has a list of shopping places like Target etc which are nearby. If you son hasn’t received that envelope then I would call housing.</p>
<p>As far as what else your son might need you can always pick it up here. There is a Container Store in Easton Town Center which is about 20 minutes away and the Target and Bed Bath & Beyond is I believe at Lennox Center which is only 5 minutes away. </p>
<p>Right now my hotel room is filled with my son’s stuff. We plan on only taking about half of it for the movein to see how big the room is and then take the rest for what will fit. What doesn’t fit will be returned to the stores or back on the plane with me. All the students bellhops at the Blackwell laughed at me when i brought my car up for valet saying I had too much stuff for the dorm so I wouldn’t necessary get more stuff right now and I would just wait until you get here.</p>
<p>My daughter’s not an OWL and will be moving in on the 19th. Her RA called her with a move-in time. The only thing we received in the mail was the move-in day brochure itself - no parking pass. So I wonder if the “non-OWL” move-ins pick up their passes at the Schott instead, since everyone is supposed to start there?</p>
<p>D will be in Lincoln as well, but she’s in a quad, so there’s no question on lofting - just who gets stuck with the top bunks! Seems to me the single beds CAN be lofted, but I’m not positive on that. And we’ve got it easy as to what to bring. We’re local, just a half hour away, and Dad even works right across the street from campus. So shuttling things (and the daughter) back and forth should be a cinch.</p>
<p>dd was an OWL last year and we did not have to go to the Schott first so makes sense that you’d pick up your pass then along with other items if moving in on regular date. It really is an amazingly efficient process.</p>
<p>Since I am on campus I asked and they said OWL’s get parking passes mailed to them. Others on th 19th will pick up their pass at the Center where you go to check in and pick up your keys. From the Center you will pick up your pass and be given directions. Plan on coming early if you can. They have signs all over warning people that it is going to be pretty crowded that day.</p>
