Move In Crew

My daughter will be a freshman in August, she signed up to be a volunteer with the Move In Crew for move in Day. Any idea when they hear if they are selected for that? It would mean an early move in day and some adjusting at home schedules so just curious. Thanks

If I remember, my daughter didn’t find out about being an OWL last year until late July maybe even early August. I remember being kind of stressed about it because we were also trying to plan move-in. This year she’s an OA, so she’ll be there when her dorm (Lane) opens and she’ll get to to help move in the OWLs and then she’s applied to be an OWL again so she’ll get to help everyone else move in, too!

stressedoutmama - my incoming freshman son applied last week to be an OWL. I was assuming everyone that applies is probably enlisted? I saw lots of signs around campus last week asking for students to apply. Do you know if there is a limit to number they accept? Does your daughter know if any that apply are not accepted? Thanks in advance.

I received an email today about being accepted to be an owl. Check the osu email.

Congratulations! We are pleased to inform you that you have been selected as an OWL (Ohio State Welcome Leader) for 2015. As an OWL, you will have the opportunity to connect with other student leaders, welcome first year students to campus, and get a jump start into autumn semester!

Please mark your calendars for the OWL assisted move-in on Thursday, August 20, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. More information about your move-in will be sent out via OSU email by the end of July. PLEASE NOTE: As an OWL, you do not need to register for an early arrival.

We have planned a lot of fun activities and events from Thursday evening through move-in on Saturday, with the training and activities being mandatory. We will send out the detailed scheduled along with the move-in information shortly. Please let us know as soon as possible if you are participating in another early arrival program that will interfere with the timeline of the OWL program.

The OWL program is a great way to become part of the OSU family and we are very excited that you have decided to join! If you have any questions or feel as though you are not able to take part in the OWL program, please email housing@osu.edu or call the Housing Office at (614) 292-8266.

Thanks fbi251. My S did receive this email too. Seems like great way to help out at OSU and meet other students. Nice way to start out for a new student, i would think.

My son was an OWL his freshman year and then involved again his sophomore year - really liked it and stayed friends with someone he met through the program. Also, a side benefit is that he got to move in early and get settled before general move in day. Well worth it! Have fun!
