Average GPA of admitted transfer for UCSD was 3.5

I've seen 3.4 and 3.3 mentioned here.... I just found a source that says it's 3.5

Kinda scary for me, i am bio major, and those classes are extremely hard.

Admission to UCSD is very competitive.

You must exceed minimum UC admission requirements.
Average GPA for Fall 2004 admitted transfers was 3.5.
Priority for admission - applicants from California community colleges:
Enrolled at one or moreCalifornia community colleges for at least 2 terms (excluding summer sessions).
Last college before admission to UCSD was California community college (excluding summer).
Completed at least 30 semester (45 quarter) UC-transferable units at one or more California community colleges.
For Fall 2004, appr. 95% of UCSD's transfers came from these colleges.

I've heard that the lowest GPA they want was 4.0??

yea right...4.0 is pretty hard to get...especially if you are going for an engineering major and you take calc III, diff eq, lin alg, physics etc. etc.

I heard the info from my School. 4.0 is hard to get; UC is becoming more competitve; they accept less students; that's why "they" say if u get a 4.0 or above, then your chance of getting in is good, though u have to take all those rigorous classes and ace the SATs and ACTs.

Cindy, U can't get above 4.0, this is college, this is a tranfer forum.

I am not that suprised they take around 3.5. UCSD is generally people's second or third choice.

Man only if their TAG program wasn't that annoying.

yea this is college...you can't get above 4.0 so compared to that even 3.5 is pretty good

Oops.. Im sorry. I was talking about Highschoolers getting into UCs. yea, 4.0 in college is impossible.

I think 3.5-3.6 in CC is about what a 4.0 weighted is in HS IMO.

highschoolda in some majors like maybe if you are transferring to an english major it's not really that hard to get 4.0 but maybe something like bio or engineering yes it's very hard and 3.5+ is excellent...in my calc II class of 30 only 5 or 6 people got As...

fei, i am a bio major, in bio classes at my cc only 2 people out of 35 get A. So i totally understand where u're comming from.

Obviously i took eng and history classes for my general Ed, and they were all piece of cake. If i were a social science major, i could pull off a 3.8-4.0 easily.

LOL, i just called them about a totally different question, they told me they are looking for about a 3.4 and human bio is not impacted and 3.4+ will get me in.

sweet...too bad the major I am applying to (EE) is impacted at most UCs...

Yeah i was originally calling about course transfer, and the lady was really nice, so i asked about admisisons, i asked if bio u need higher GPA, she said no, but she did mention engineering majors u need higher especially bioengineering, whihc everyone these days wanna do.

how high did she say?

she didn't say, most counselors don't like to talk #s anyhow.

It's not that impossible Cindy...after 75+ quarter units I have a 4.0. Although I have a feeling calculus is going to kill it..oh well. =D

And yes, many of my classes have been challenging. 2 chem classes (for majors), a bio class (for majors), stats, a year of honors English, history and 3 philosophy classes...and an assortment of others.

It is difficult but not impossible. But like I said...I am about to eat it thanks to my nemesis...math! Devil! Calculus tis thy name!!! =P
