I heard the Average GPA of University of Pennsylvania is 3.83.

Is this weighed or unweighed ? Are all the “Average GPAs” reported by schools weighed ?

I heard the Average GPA of University of Pennsylvania is 3.83.

Is this weighed or unweighed ? Are all the “Average GPAs” reported by schools weighed ?

i'm pretty sure that's the average high school gpa of incoming freshmen...

the average gpa of all penn undergraduates in 2001 was a 3.32.

Yes is this weighed appropriately or is it not?

Like I mean I take AP/IB courses and have 3.57 GPA (Weighed it becomes 4.29). Would Penn count this as 4.29 or as 3.57 ?

that gpa would be out of 4.0, unweighted.

if weighted gpa were counted in that figure it would be pretty crazy (my high school had a 7.0 system, for example)

7.0 that's crazy! Well I officially have no chances whatsoever at UPenn.

My school weighs Honors classes and AP/IB classes the same (5.0)

apply anyway if you really want to be here. gpa is not the sole determining factor in the success of your application.

where do you go to school? (the weighting system sounds like moco public schools and I overcame a GPA that may keep me out of the top 5%)

I think my school has the best system (a lot of schools do this).

CP - 4 points
Honors - 5 Points
AP - 6 points

so the top 30 kids in the class will be about 4.3-5.1

Of course getting a 6.0 or even 5.7 is impossible (certain classes such as P/E are not AP or Honors).

Thus every school is different, u will be judged based on your options and what you chose to take.

Richard Montgomery (I'm a IBer)

You'll be fine. I go to one of the normal public schools that also had 25+EDers and about 1/3 of them were legacies.

Ah 32 of (Magnet IB kids) applied to Ivies ED here.

sigh

wait they look at this in the context of your schools' grading system, i hope?
also -- does anyone who goes to penn know what the average GPA for JUST wharton is? i'm actually thinking about hunstman..does my GPA need to be higher.
i have a 3.7 but a ton of AP classes

So long as you are one of the top students at a very competitive school or the top student at a moderately/notso competitive school you will have a GPA high enough to be competitive for Huntsman. At my high school a 3.7 would have you out of the top 10% (top 5% was out of my range and I had a 3.95). It's more about class rank than about the straight out number.

k thx for the info...see, i don't know if my school ranks based on weighted or unweighted grades. i'm really hoping the aps/honors count for something.
