Average SAT score in Korea!

Wow, those chicks are ugly. Anyway, uh, that one school might have a 2203 SAT average, but, really, what do you expect if you take any nation's "brightest" and gather the mean SAT score for the group? Furthermore, all of these kids are tortured and forced into studying and practicing hours upon hours upon hours on end just to do well.

If someone told me they'd chop my dong off if I didn't get a 2400, you can bet I'd get one. That's basically what's happening here.

Exactly. I couldn't have said it better.

ROFL@that. Kinda mean but true.

^^Absolutely true. Ashraf beat their average sat score and is not forced into studying 18 hrs a day. Maybe I too can prove that I am just as capable as a korean student. And angryasainman, lighten up.

I'm from the US of A and China isn't communist anymore. It's capitalist. The fact that this country likes to blame all of its problems on China and Chinese people ****es me off, especially because I am Chinese American myself.

The economic structure perhaps, but not fully. But they are still communist in terms of dictatorship and the messed-up social structure. People who are in power are still the illiterate people or their descendents who were priviledged when China was highly communist.

When the media here says something about China, I'm pretty sure it's not aimed at all the Chinese people. Like I said, Chinese people in China are different from Chinese people elsewhere. Chinese people in china are those who are causing the problem, not Chinese-Americans. Why would you get mad for something completely unrelated to you?

Oh, relax angryasianman. Sure, people can blame problems on China and its people, but you can't get all bent out of shape about it. Laugh it off. I'm Egyptian, so I get a lot of ridicule thanks to the 9/11 'tards, but I tend to just shrug it off or join in the humor myself -- there's no point in getting enraged over some random person's opinions.

no way Koreans have avg SAT is 2290 (Koreans even speak Eng better than English do ?!)

Yeah. I read that article. Pretty good stuff.

Now, I'm not saying that Koreans are "elite" or that their 2290 average SAT score is perfectly legit, but some koreans do communicate in english better than americans...

Some probably do. I guess we don't have enough people who speak better English than Koreans can.

***???? Does anyone bother reading the article? It says:

[quote]
Their average combined SAT score was 2203 out of 2400. By comparison, the average combined score at Phillips Exeter, the New Hampshire boarding school, is 2085.

It's 2203 not 2290.... geez... So much for your critical reading skills...

there are like 4 koreans at my school... one of them is on the top 10..if this is korea just imagine japan...my US history teacher's favorite joke is Japan will take over the world someday..hehe. not to deprecate anybody, but a lot of education is where you live and your friends/culture...if you're friends study ALOT you will do it too....ofc everyone studies over there so that means if they have 'social' lives they must be weird.... but enough of that! this story should INSPIRE you guys to get 2400's. lol. beat those koreans!

As far as I know, Japanese students don't study as hard as Chinese and Koreans as they did before. Japan has a pretty mature democracy and people can survive in the society comparatively easier. I know quite a few Japanese people who are not the asian geek stereotypes. Whether going to college and what not is just a personal choice. They tend to relax like we do here.

Adding on to what others have said about this not being, by any stretch of the imagination, the "average SAT score in Korea"...

Andover, or whatever private school they used to compare SAT scores, by no means has the highest average SAT score in the US. I know that my school's average SAT score is 2156; if they're going to compare one of the best schools in Korea (with regards to SAT scores) to ones in the US, they should have picked the best schools in the US (with regards to SAT scores).

As if SAT scores are life...

lol many Koreans kid now have well-off parents.I think if most of them get higher than 2300 America will be crowded with Koreans someday

lol well actually the truth is the koreans get high 700s on math and really low everything else on cr/writing

my friend in korea told me that when they were taking the sat and the korean kids were on CR, they had 2-3 minutes and still had 1-2 passages left to read along with answering the questions. LOLL

You really can't judge one country just based on the performance of one school. That's AP stats right there! This isn't a simple random sample! haha

aishh ><

daewon and minjok, so luckyy
yeol gong!

LUCKY???? i'm sorry but I'd rather have a social life for a good part of my high school life rather than having to study all day to get a 2400 on the SAT.
