Average/Slightly Above Students - Recent Acceptance Thread

@amroy67 - Thanks! Yes, we are excited. It is his 1st acceptance. We shall what he decides to do about UML. Still waiting to hear from RIT, UConn, UMass Amherst, UNH, URI, Roger Williams and Western New England Univ. We only live about 20-25 min from UML so commuting is definitely an option if he decides to go there but we will wait till we have all the offers and then decide.

Although since he did so well on his last SATs (Up 200 points) he has to decided to give it a go and apply to RPI and WPI too. We shall see what happens.

@joedon - Congrats on your son’s acceptances. Salve Regina!!! Have spent many hours in Newport. Hard to beat that view!

I got into my first choice school, Syracuse university VPA with a 24 act and a 3.4 average!!!

Hey can my fellow average students/students parents suggest some colleges for me in the northeast area that may give me some merit money? I have a 1780 SAT with about a 3.3 cumulative GPA (top 55%) (very upward trending, and will be a little higher next year.) and I also may slightly improve my SAT since I’m only a current junior, and taking a two week class this spring.

Just accepted to USF with a 3.6 and 1740 SAT. Average for the win!

Em1994, ive tht Hofstra U in upstate NY gives good aid…might apply there myself

hi guys! I’m international student. My GPA is 3.5 and SAT 1850. Can you suggest me some schools??? I also apply for the financial aid

I believe that Hostra is on Long Island, not upstate.

Em1994-what are you looking to study? Size school? City or not?

Hofstra is on Long Island.

Em1994: take a look at Monmouth U. in West Long Branch, NJ.

Division 1 sports teams.

Maybe 5 minutes from the ocean.

Thanks guys and @confusedmom I am most likely going to study biology, possibly pre-med but I hear that’s a not such a good idea. Small to mid-size school and the only city I really like is Boston, otherwise I’m more into suburb campuses.

Just checked Monmouth and Hofstra out, they are very intriguing. Thanks a lot for those suggestions! You guys just made my college choice a lot harder!!

Maybe Roger Williams (in Bristol RI, only 25 min from Newport!). When we were there in April they said they had merit money for a certain SAT score and GPA (not too high) although they have since become test optional so i don’t know how that is going to affect the merit aid situation. Western New England Univ on the outskirts of Springfield Mass has automatic merit aid for SAT and GPA. They have the information right on their website. [Merit Aid](<a href=“Admissions | Western New England University”>Admissions | Western New England University)

have you done any of the college searches either on this website or collegeboard.org to try and narrow down your choices?

I use naviance to check if their Average-high SAT is in my range. And then I use a website called parchment. You plug in your GPA, Class rank,SAT scores and EC’s and they give you your chances at schools based on the % of students that got in with your stats, for instance they have me a 33% at boston U, 59% at northeastern, 79% chance at UMass Amherst, and a 99% chance at UMass Boston, Monmouth, and Hofstra. I have a college board account but I never really go on there for anything but signing up for SATs.

so i have a 2.7 ,yeah, im lazy, but i took the sat and got 1820. I live in California so i applied to the the 4 csu schools for free: san francisco, sacramento, east bay, channel islands, i also applied to oregon state, kansas, there are some other schools that have later deadlines, but am i screwed?

Sosa–I’d think you’ll get in pretty easily at UGa

Boymomx3–how much did you get from Alabama?

you could get into a lot of places with an 1830

A lot of extracurricular activities and over 400 hours of community service
