To all Stanford acceptees, how many awards did you list in the section? Did you list the little ones (i.e. invited to nylc, etc.)?
I am very worried right now, seeing as how I am a junior and I only have 4 or 5 non-bs things that I can list, and even they aren't that good (i.e. Principal's honor roll, school competition awards, essay contest honorable mention). Next year I might have national merit semifinalist, but all in all i won't be able to fill more than half of the awards section. I just wanted to see if the people who got in did so without many big name awards. Heck, did anyone get in without ANY awards?
Thanks for reading the long post!

If my memory serves me correctly, there are 8 spaces for awards on the Stanford app. I put down the usual well-known awards (national merit semifinalist, ap scholar) first, and then some other national awards (bio olympiad semifinalist, national german exam high scorer). Then I put the Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholar Award, which is an NJ state-level award, and finally my scholastic awards (honor roll, rensellaer math and science award). I had a few other BS awards that I didn't bother to put on the app.

Basically, just put the awards that you consider to be important for yourself. You don't have to fill them all up. It's about quality, not quantity.

yea...the awards aren't even a big deal...I don't even think it has a major impact on your decisions.

I'm an EA acceptee..and I didn't put down any remarkable, rare awards.

I had little regional awards from Science Olympiad, our scholastic bowl team won the district competition..so I put that...and I also got the Dartmouth Book Award (which is an award given by the Darmouth Alumni Club in my area to a high school kid they like)
You know it is really all just relative. For example, our scholastic bowl team does not compete beyond the district level so that was the highest we could win. So it really just depends on what was available to you and how you take advantage of the opportunities offered to you.

How do colleges know what was available to you?
What do you do when applications dont give lines for awards but blank space..like Princeton's. How do you fit stuff in?

your teacher recs and counselor recs should give the admissions office an idea of the context in which u succeeded. you can also weave it into your essays..subtly..
this is right from the Stanford website:
"As we read applications, we are guided by several ideas, including Intellectual Vitality, Academic Excellence, and the notion of understanding your folder within your individual Context"

if you wanna read more on it...go to : http://www.stanford.edu/dept/uga/applying/1_2h_appeval.html

Sorry I can't help wtih princeton...i didn't apply there
