Rogers is for both Grads and Undergrads. Rogers isn’t bad by any means. It’s a full apartment with a kitchen (I know you said something like your parents were worried about you cooking, now you at least have a kitchen in your room, unlike any of the freshman dorms).

You can petition it, but at this point in time I would think they pretty much are out of spaces. I’m surprised you got somewhere like Rogers, honestly. Sure it isn’t somewhere that you might have expected or wanted, but it is at least a decent placement.

Only negatives about Rogers I have heard are that you can’t really see out of the windows and that the apartments are a bit small (although they are only for 1-2 people, unlike say McCollum or Ragans, which are for 4 people). That said, it’s a nice building from what I hear.

lol, thanks for the reply Pasbal, you should consider being a FSU ambassador, as you’re quite knowledgeable of the campus ins-and-outs!

I took a look at the room structure, my only problem with it is that I won’t have my own “room”, not much privacy, and I’ve looked at several of the other dorms I’ve applied for and not much privacy there either.

I don’t think I’ll petition it, I’ll make do with it. : ) I’ve already e-mailed my roommate as an introduction of myself. So seems like it’s official!

And by the look of the room structure it’s very small X___X I assume it’s on the 7th floor? Rogers hall has 8th floors according to that link above.

@ FSUDAD1 : | yah, I assume I had no luck due to the fact that it was spring. X_x’

Yeah, housing in spring is very limited. You’re pretty much getting whatever is available, which is generally going to open up from people either moving off campus (hard to do now with the new housing contracts), flunking out (possibly the most likely) or graduating (which likely happened for you to get Rogers).

Room 722 is on the 7th floor, yes.

As for being an FSU Ambassador, I’d rather not. But thanks for the kind words! :)

Rogers isn’t that far. It’s located on the other side of the parking lot behind Salley, which itself is located just across the street from the Psychology department.

I wish there was an interactive map that will map you to your classes That would be so cool, maybe we should talk to the technology department on that.

Pasbal, how spacious are the closets? Any ideas? I don’t know how much clothes I should bring, could you give me an idea how many “bags” or what not I should bring…

At this point I’m thinking of bringing my whole closet!

I usually work out daily, if not every other day, I think that’s where most of my laundry will come from lol.

I don’t know how spacious the closets are, sorry. I doubt they are the same size as the ones in McCollum. They look to be about 3 feet wide give or take for each person.

I have a lot of stuff in my closet in McCollum though. I don’t know if the Rogers closets have any drawers or anything, or if the dresser is the only set. If worst came to worst, you could probably just store stuff under your bed or such.

hmm yah good idea. Is is usually busy on January 2nd? I’m thinking of coming up there on January 2nd to move in, that’s the earliest date they allow you to move in the dorms, maybe at a later time that day would be best?

Or to avoid much traffic would you suggest moving in on the 3rd? Just an idea, I know my parents will want to see me moving in and the room I’ll be at, are they allowed during that time to enter with students?

Parents are welcome during move in, of course. They are welcome in the building as long as someone is escorting them. Unless your parents are going to be troublemakers there’s no problem with them being there. ;)

As for when to move in, since it’s only 2 days to move in for Spring and Fall move in was 5 days, it pretty much will be busy the entire time. It’s a lot easier move-in though for those returning, but still a huge headache for new people.

At least this isn’t January 2nd, and you still don’t know whether you will have anywhere to live. You already know where you live, have gotten in contact with your roommate, and everything. You’re well on your way! :)

It’s exciting but don’t get over anxious. Enjoy the break!

I lived there as a transfer student because I was a last minute accepted, I actually lived on the 7th floor you may be taking my room lol but alot of people after this fall 2011 semester moved off campus from the building. It was not that bad, but I took it for what it was worth. I didn’t really hang out there at all just came to sleep some nights! There is a bunch of oriental and older people in the building which I did not like. But like I said I didn’t come to fsu to sit in a room! But I am happy that I am moving out of that place. It is old and outdated and needs to be knocked down or renovated, seriously.

mikebuk123, that’s so cool lol you’ve actually lived in that building same floor, and wait same room? : |

Well, I myself am not going to FSU to be in a room all day either, I’d like to be involved on campus with various activities, probably will end up going back to my room for sleeping, and cooking/eating that’s about it lol.

Hopefully though I don’t encounter the mishaps you’ve encountered during your stay.

I do like one thing though, is having one roommate instead of having 3 others.

It might be the same room lol. Well quite a few people moved out after this semester! It really was not that bad but it did have negatives that I did not like! You really do not meet that many people in the building at all. The appliances like the stove and oven are out dated. So I found using it my first couple times that I burned a couple things lol maybe that was just my room. I also did not like sharing a bathroom and room to sleep in. But I actually stayed at friends places over the weekend as we would go out a lot so that was not a big problem. You cannot go outside in your unit the porch/patio is basically a foot out with a huge brick wall lol it makes no sense! I did not have cable so now tv for me! The closet space was actually pretty good size and fit a ton of shirts and had room for more. You may not even have a roommate because when I was there, their was several people that did not even have one due to small numbers during the semester. Also since it is month to month many choose to move off campus throughout the semester. Sometimes parking late at night can be hard to find but usually it is not a problem. You will see because of the location getting in and out of campus with a car gets kind of annoying of how the parking lot and exit to tenn st is designed is sort of a long route every time lol! Never move your car between the hours of 8am-3pm during the day from any lot around the building because you will not find a spot till after that! If the strip opens (bars on tennessee) back up hopefully, you are walking distance which is a plus. I met some people in the building but many as you will see are korean, japanese, or chinese and speak that language so it is hard to meet a ton of people. Sometimes doing laundry can be a hassle but I never had a big problem with that. Also me an my roommate got a long really good and did not have not even one problem with each other. But yep I did live on the 7th floor! If you walk out of the elevator take a left and first one on the left I don’t remember the number, but it had a view of the tennessee st side and you could see burger king!

Corbis, if it helps, the only bad things I have ever heard about Rogers was that it was smaller than McCollum’s townhouses (which have 4 residents instead of 1 or 2 in Rogers), and that it was a sort of old and quite ugly building- which being on the west side, that’s expected (as was stated my sophomore year, the west side of campus has a mascot as the walrus- no joke- because the west side of campus and a walrus have in common that they aren’t pleasant to look at).

Hopefully you enjoy living in Rogers. The parking lot that Rogers shares with McCollum is practically always full, and the parking lot shared between Rogers, Kellum, Smith, Salley, and McCollum is almost always full as well. But I have noticed though this year- as did my roommates- that the McCollum parking lot is rarely full to capacity. Unlike last year, there are no cars parking along the curb in the parking lot, which was pretty much always an issue last year (especially if you had a car and were trying to get a spot, it made driving through the already narrow parking lot extremely hazardous).

Basically just use your car sparingly and you should be able to keep a spot. Or park in the McCollum lot. We’re friendly and most of us won’t cause bodily harm for using “our” lot. Most of us, anyway.

That was straight from the residence coordinator for McCollum and Rogers last year during the start of year meeting. The reasoning given was because most of the west side buildings looked like sore thumbs.

That spiel though wasn’t used this year at that meeting so I don’t know if it’s still used or if we’re just expected to know it. It doesn’t really matter- I’ve lived on campus now for 3 years and I haven’t encountered anyone that wanted to do the stupid little gesture and sound.
