Because mine still says that I have the same horrible Smith Hall room. And I don't get this when my first 2 preferences were Ragans and McCollum with a priority 3 of 259. And the site won't even let me do a reassignment request.

I'm just frustrated because my friends got into Ragans and they are just going to be Sophomores next year. But next year I'll be in the 2nd half of my Junior year.

I called the housing office and they said they were updating thing and they’d be finish tomorrow, so I’m hoping they just didn’t switch my info from this year over yet. :(

Just out of curiosity, what is each of you takes on Smith hall? Just wondering about the pros and cons, as I am likely to be put there with a number of 5159…>.>

Priority is your number and your number of semesters in on campus housing. Your year in school does not matter. They take everyone with 7 semesters first then go by their priority number, then those with 6 and their priority number, then 5 etc. Your year in school does not matter. If your friends have more semesters in on campus housing at FSU, they were assigned first. If your are a transfer, your number of semesters in on-campus determines the order you are assigned.

Torioreo: I just don’t like how out of the way it seems. It’s close to the gym and Fresh but I don’t go to Fresh really. It’s really small and I cook like all the time so I don’t like having to share a kitchen with like 20ish other girls…or a bathroom for that matter. I would like not having to see cheetos colored vomit in the toilets like once a week.

Sunnyflorida: I didn’t know that. If that’s the case, I may be stuck here after all. :(

Smith is strategically placed near everything a college freshman needs.

Gym.
Access to Parties if that may be the case since it IS the most social dorm on campus.
Food.
Library.

GALF!

People say that it might be because the people there want to be out of their room as much as possible but that really isn’t the case, however the people here are really outgoing. A lot more so than the other dorms i have seen.

Smith isn’t that bad. Other than the small rooms which you can adjust to fairly quickly and the community style bathrooms that can be taken care of with slight ease and a collective effort, nothing else isn’t here that you won’t find anywhere else.

Puking? Hardly. It’s not as if people are puking in all the stalls and all over the bathroom each week. Don’t worry about it. Don’t get sickened out and come in with a negative stereotype because all that will do is make your experience follow those beliefs you come in with. All in all, making your experience at Smith bad.

Assignments: Assignments will be made using original priority dates and numbers. Original application date refers to the date a student first applied to University Housing with continuous residency.

That is how they list it. But how I explained it is how is works. They take those who have had the longest residency in the dorms first, then go by date they applied for housing and priority number for that group. Then they take the next longest residency in dorms etc. Unfortunately, a spring start puts you behind everyone who started in fall of the same year. But apply for a change and nicely keep checking in over the term and even over the summer. There will be students who drop out and go to off campus housing etc. Be patient.

Thanks satscholar and corysmith for the info! I am wondering, though, what time most go to bed in Smith? I tend to try to get 8 hours of sleep every night, so if I have an 8 am class I will want to go to bed by 11…will the hallways and neighbor dorms have loud people in them throughout the night?

satscholar: I actually live in Smith Hall now, I’m not randomly spewing out facts that I’ve heard. Maybe it’s just 6th floor I don’t know, but everyday there’s like a glob of hair in one of the showers, from the same person. Gross. And one time, this girl had like some explosive diarrhea or something, it was all over the toilet seat, the walls and the floor. I don’t know how she managed to do that. :(

torioreo: I’d say 11ish or 12ish maybe? But the hallways are usually pretty quiet.

No, quiet hours start at 9pm each night and if there is noise, the RA will take care of it. You will get plenty of sleep, no worries. Your roommate and you have to come to an agreement however. It can cause problems later on in the semester if you don’t have a set plan.

Normally, most people stop wandering the halls at 11ish and it gets quieter. If you live in the upper floors, it shouldn’t be that bad.

And yeah it might just be a specific floor, its all up to the residents of each floor to keep up with their sanitary issues.

When will those who already have lived on campus know what room assignments they will have next year? Thanks.

This is what I found on Facebook FSU Housing page. Just an FYI. So I guess all our rooms will be confirmed tomorrow afternoon.
