I have a few questions about Rogers, b/c no matter how much searching and asking around on campus no one really has any answers for me except that ... "Yeah Rogers is okay..."
Sooo...
Is there wifi in that building? If not how many ethernet connections are in the rooms?
Are the rooms really that small as they appear in the photo they have showing the layout of the room on the housing page? It looks like my arm could stretch out and slap my roommate in the face while she's sleeping.
Is there carpet in the bedroom?
I was assigned bed A and told I will be in a double, but have not been assigned a roommate just yet. Will I be lucky enought to be living on my own for Fall at least if they haven't paired me with anyone?

There isn’t WiFi… yet (to my knowledge). They’re supposedly trying to get campus WiFi up by the end of summer, but I’ve also read December was a target date as well. Oh, and the “campus-wide WiFi” has been talked about since I first visited (not even when I started at FSU!) in 2008. We’re now 4 years out from when I first visited and they are still not finished with it.

There should be 1 Ethernet port per person, so two in the room. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you where they are. My guess would be under the desk area, which is the only logical place for them to be.

I honestly can’t tell you about the rooms. I will say though that a lot of the 3D models make everything look smaller than it actually is. With Rogers, it seems like, as much of a hassle as it might be, bunking the beds would open the room up so much- except that I’m sure that there aren’t that many people that would want to do that.

I honestly am not sure about whether there’s carpet in the room. The 3D models of McCollum don’t show the carpet that is in those bedrooms. Traditions, however, shows the carpet that is in each apartment, so unfortunately you can’t rely on them, either.

If you haven’t got a roommate yet and are in a double, most likely you will have a roommate. It’s my understanding that they haven’t finished assigning everyone to Rogers yet, so things are still likely changing. Give it about 2 more weeks, and if you don’t have a roommate, I’d begin to ask Housing.

I highly suggest that you email the housing people about the last couple questions you have, if you don’t get an answer in the next couple days from here. Unfortunately, the person that handles Rogers and the other Grad buildings within Housing is out of the office through next week, so she won’t be able to answer you, but maybe someone else within Housing can help.

Dorm ethernet ports and wall electrical outlets are easy to find…they are always located in the most awkward to reach spots, behind the heaviest, most difficult to move pieces of furniture in the dorm room. I wish they’d install all outlets about 5 ft up on wall.

Thank you Pasbal & Tallalassie! Super helpful.
Also don’t understand why there isn’t wifi in many of the apartments/dorms. You’d think by now they’d have it sorted.

I have been in Rogers before. The rooms are a lot larger than most regular freshman dorm rooms. When you walk in there is a kitchen doubled up with like a living room area with a couch a table and two chairs. It comes with a full size fridge. Also there is a stove and some storage space but the stove is very out of date. Then there is a bathroom pretty small size but it works. The room is an ok size for two people with two beds. The closet it self is actually pretty big in my opinion. Overall its not that small but not that big! It is ok, not in a horrible location. As you can walk anywhere on campus, and not very far from a couple places to eat. Also if you had to walk home from a bar or club it wouldn’t be THAT far. I mean I would not recommend it but it wouldn’t be a horrible distance if you had to. My friend lived there, and usually it is reserved for grad students or older undergrad students. Weird mix of people I remember that was last fall then he moved out because it is month to month so you could leave at any time.

Thanks mike! Very helpful. Glad to have it confirmed that the rooms aren’t as small as I imagined.

I was also hoping they were roomy. There was a video on youtube of a room in Roger’s hall months ago but, it’s been deleted since. The video went through the entire apartment. The showers looked like they only had 6 feet of vertical space.

I mean they are not huge by any means lol. But definitely larger than a regular dorm room that is on campus. You get your own kitchen and bathroom even though the kitchen may be a little out dated that is still better than any other dorm on campus.

Oh I wasn’t expecting a large room, just enough space where it won’t be awkwardly small for two people sharing a room.
I doubt the kitchen will be better than Ragans or Traditions, lol. I saw there is barely enough counter space at Rogers. It’s just a basic kitchenette, but it’ll do.
I also noticed the sink is inside the bathroom, which is a bummer. It’s so convenient having the sink outside the bathroom area.
Oh well. At least it’s on campus, month-to-month and the rent is cheap.

If I remember correctly there is not very much counter space at all. I’ve been in Ragans a couple times and Rogers a couple times and Ragans is by far a bigger unit everything from bathrooms to kitchen. But also ragans is 4 person unit Rogers is 2. Worst comes to worst you can look to sub lease an apartment after first semester. My friend did that after fall semester. Plus it will be real easy to sub lease for spring because alot of people either drop out, move back home, or for some reason want to leave.

omg I looked at pictures of Rogers Hall on flickr, it looks like a nightmare. There is literally no counter space to prep food, the study area looks super small and it looks overall very depressing. Those pics were kind of old on flickr so I’m hoping it is not as sad looking as it looked then.
I hate that they put me in Ragans for this Summer, b/c Ragans is awesome and then it’s like a huge downgrade at Rogers, haha.

(1st world problems…I know :/)

Not to make you feel any worse than you do. But it really is a super downgrade lol. But it’s month to month so you can always get out of it lol enjoy!

Gee thanks lol. I’m going to have to do a lot to make it look somewhat homely.
