I am planning on writing my common app essay on a pretty personal topic (involving a disorder I possess). However, for my school’s summer assignment I have to respond to a common app essay and turn it, and I don’t think I’d feel comfortable with my teacher reading it and I believe I recall them mentioning something about peer editing as well so that would be even worse. Should I possibly right two different essays with one for school (which most likely won’t be very good risking my grade as it will be on a different topic) and a real one for college? Any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you!
Yes that would be an appropriate response. But also you have to ask yourself" If you don’t feel comfortable with your peers and teachers reading it, are you sure it would be an appropriate essay for college?" I say this because some people have essays that they wouldn’t feel comfortable sharing with people that know them, but entrust the same information to college admission counselors. Just a word of caution.
It is important to get feedback though, so I do encourage you to write an essay to get feedback, at least on the prose and writing style. Who knows you might also like the one you wrote for school better and use it instead. As a multidimensional person, I am sure you can think of multiple good stories about your life that tells something about yourself.
