Awkward situation

So...I was accepted earlier this year as a 10th grader for the 2008-2009 school year.

We declined (perhaps too quickly) as the school was unable to give us financial aid.

We asked them again a little while ago if it's at all possible for me to attend this year, and the admissions person is asking the board.

The trouble is, as I haven't completed a credit or two of 9th grade, I would have to go in as a repeat 9th grader.

I feel incredibly awkward about this. I was born in '92, so I'm already a few months older than my current classmates...

What do I do?

'92 is actually not that old for 9th grade at boarding school. A lot of kids repeat and because of this you have kids that, potentially, are driving before the finish 9th grade!

i know this sounds extremely rude, but i'm not intending to sound mean so ..
"i haven't completed a credit or two of 9th grade" as in you haven't completed a class that they find required of you?

^^ sorry that sounds weird, im just curious

and as for any advice i can give; do you really love the school enough to spend another year in school? push aside the age deal and maybe that it may feel repetitive doing another year.
my opinion though, is that you should reapply to that school and several others for next year. i know 11th grade is tough and all when it comes to admissions, but i think redoing freshman year might feel kind of tough, recreating the foundation of transcripts and all that.

Westcoast_- no, it's not rude at all.

I'm currently homeschooled and yes, that's pretty much the situation.

Thanks, you guys.

Any way to be a sophomore and tack on the freshman courses that you didn't complete on the side?

As a femaile student, you would likely be the most mature 9th grader at most schools. Perhaps another school would admit you for 10th grade--or you could complete on line courses this year.

Okay, im not going to lie, you may be the oldest freshman , but As far as boarding schools go, I dont think it would be any reason for embarasment, i think you'll be fine. If you fail to befriend many of your fellow freshman, then the tight knot community usuually fostered in these types of communities will alow you to hang out with loads of sophmores, and juniors, even seniors.

Being older is actually a bit better in my opinion... I would rather be older then younger(When I changed schooling systems I went from oldest to near the middle). I was born in the end of 92 and I am going to be a sophmore this year. Compared to my friends outside of my school I am old... Compared to them I am in the middle.

My d bd is in Sept and she is the youngest of her classes. Several of the BS we applied to stated they thought she would do better to wait a year.

btw, i don't think age really matters in boarding school (unless maybe a senior-aged student is taking freshman year, then maturity might differ)
& maybe a good idea is to ask the school if you could tack on the freshman course like someone above mentioned?

good luck, whatever you choose :D

Yikes, I wasn't online for a while.

Anyway. Yeah, we're seeing if I can get in as a Sophomore and tack on the Freshman classes (which are online currently), but I'm not sure if the school will go for that.

Thanks to everyone for the advice/consolation! :)

Oh gosh, just repeat. No one notices stuff like that at bs....it's very common. My son repeated by choice and is very happy with his decision. He is ahead in his classes and varsity in three sports. It's a great opportunity.

Ok Dont feel bad!
You are not that old! lol Take my roommate. I wont say the exact age because he could be on here but lets just say his age falls between 17 and 19......lol He will be a freshman.
I don't care about his age and Ill be living with him for a year!! lol
But what I do care about is his stank attitude....another story.
I met many repeats and people dont care about their age. lol
What counts is what is on the inside.
Plus if you repeat you will get not 3 but 4 glorious years of life at a BS.

Hahahaha
