I'm considering transferring to UCLA or UCB next Fall ('11) with my prospective major being English, but right now it looks as though I may be getting a B in my current British Lit class at cc which is required prior to transfer. My current GPA is a 3.97 without the potential B, and I am planning to finish the TAP program, so in terms of my transfer GPA, I'm not too worried, but would it be a tough sell if I have that B in a major course, being that the program is impacted at UCLA?

So far I have roughly 70 units over the past 2 years, and I have gotten straight A's with the exception of two W's that I have since made up (elective classes)..

I don't mean to be completely paranoid, but I would expect the major to become even more competitive than it already was this year, and I feel my worry may be justified..=/

I get that what I’m asking is in a word pretentious, but considering some of the other asinine questions I have read on this forum, it’s not quite fair to knock me for merely fitting in with the urban dictionary stereotype. If you’re on CC, expect some freaked-out Chance Me threads, obviously including my own. College is a stressful, stupid game, but those who choose to play it have a right to seek assistance.

I get the impression now that I must not have anything to worry about, so thanks for the input- sad as that is, I actually appreciate it.

It’s not that you fit the stereotype, it’s just it’s quite absurd you’re worrying over a B grade, with a GPA already as high as 3.97, but to answer your question you’re fine. But really chillax a little and I mean this in friendly a way, it can be unhealthy to obsess over a particular university like UCLA and be such a perfectionist, it’s not as if you can get your GPA any higher than 4.0

If you’ve heard people get rejected with a near 4.0 then they offered nothing to the university except a whole list of A grades or maybe it’s something as stupid as not fulling one pre-req that’s currently in progress.

English is impacted, but the average admitted GPA for UCLA in 2009 was a 3.7 or so. As for Cal, it’s one of the humanities and they have a 41% acceptance rate. I don’t remember if these numbers are 100% exact, but in short, you’re fine!
