How do your grades in your major prereq classes weigh compared to your grades an all of your classes? I've applied to UCLA as an English major, and I've taken two writing classes and one literature class, and I've received an A in both my writing classes, but I'm afraid I'm getting a B in my literature class. But my overall GPA (if I get that B) will be a 3.759. Will the admissions faculty look down on a B in a core English class?

Very important. The most important.

English is not an “impacted” major (UCLA doesn’t actually use that designation, instead, there is a footnote that says “Transfer applicants should note that demand for this major significantly exceeds space available at the transfer level” which is the same as “impacted”) so admission evaluation would look at overall UC-transferable GPA and not major prereq GPA.
