NU, Babson, Bentley

i applied for NU, Babson, Bentley, NYU and GWU. i really want NYU and GWU but i'm just getting ready for rejection. got accepted to Babson already so i'm pretty hopeful about Bentley.

my question is... compare and contrast NU, Babson and Bentley? strengths and weaknesses of each?

thanks so much!

When you say NU, I assume you mean Northeastern. If that's the case, I would say Babson, Bentley and NU are all roughly the same in terms of quality, although NU is a more complete university overall. Babson and Bentley are purely business schools, NU is a complete university. But Babson and Bentley are small and cozy whereas NU is large and can feel impersonal. I guess it depends on personal preference.

I also assume that you mean Northeastern when you noted NU.

I have seen all three. They have VERY different environments and cultures.

Northeastern has a lot more majors because they are a full service university, while Babson and Bentley specialize in business subjects.

Babson and Bentley are very much alike in that they specialize in business subjects and both are in the Boston area. This is where the similiarities stop.

Babson is strongest in entrepreneural studies, but has very decent programs in most other business areas. It is also known to be very "cut throat" among its students, which is one reason why they have a very low alumni contribution percentage. Kids may appreciate the education that they got there, but they didn't like the cut throat atmosphere. However, small business is a bit "cut throat;' thus, they may be doing this intentionally.

Bentley doesn't have an "entrepreneural major. " They leave that to Babson. What Bentley is known for, however, are strong offerings in both finance and accounting, which have great placement rates. Bentley probably provides the strongest liberal arts offerings ( with the most choices),which also allow kids to take liberal arts courses at nearby Brandies.

I think of Babson as a strong business oriented school. I think of Bentley as a LAC with a strong business orientation.

Bentley is also known to have more of a cooperative atmosphere and not as "cut throat" as Babson.

I can't speak for Babson's placement rate ,but I do know that Bentley has a very high placement rate for firms recruiting on campus and especially among accounting and financial firms.

Both Bentley and Babson are very small schools. Babson has about 1,700 undergrads and 1,600 graduate students while Bentley has about 4,200 undergrads and 1,300 grad students (per their web sites). Northeastern's student population exceeds both of these combined with 15,195 students (Princeton Review statistics)

Bentley majors and minors can be found here:Bachelors Degree Programs - Bentley College

A list of Babson's majors can be found here:Concentrations

Overall, I think Babson is a bit harder to get into than Bentley and is probably the stronger school for most majors;however, Bentley certainly is close to Babson in quality of offerings and reputation and may even be a better choice for accounting or finance, especially with the phenominal trading room that Bentley provides. For business, I like Both Babson and Bentley more than that of Northeastern.

Unfortunately, my time ran out for me to make edits to my post, but there were some other items that I wanted to note.

As I said, Bentley is more akin to a business- LAC. They even allow you to double major in both business and liberal arts.

If you check the majors/concentrations offered, you will see that there are differences in some majors. Although both schools tend to offer the same popular business core majors such as accounting, finance etc., Babson offers some majors that Bentley doesn't, and Bentley offers some majors that Babson doesn't. You really need to check out what is offered by each school.

I do know that Bentley does offer 5 year programs that lead to both a BS and MS or BS/MBA. You should check out the availabity of these programs. I don't see any five- year program that offers a combined BS/MS at Babson.
