Would someone be willing to share with me any of the slide presentations and other course material from the FME class? This class sounds great on Babson’s website, but I want to see what it is all about to help me figure out just how substantive this class really is. I am comparing this to a few other schools with entrepreneurship classes. Thanks.
Some schools have tried to copy the program but don’t seem to offer the whole package as Babson does.
Babson lets you complete the entire experience in your Freshman year, while some schools only let you do certain elements your freshman year. Some even make you wait until junior year. I’ve sat through quite a few presentations and it certainly seems like Babson’s program is excellent. I wouldn’t say they have cornered the market on this program though. Some of the schools seem to be adapting their programs continuously to keep up and create a similar experience. Babson is an excellent school choice that commands top dollar, and it is my opinion that you could find a program that could meet 90% of the Babson experience at a lesser price tag.
@RightCoaster , Thanks very much for your insights. Would you happen to have any of the class materials such as the syllabus and pdf files of the entrepreneurship model Babson uses? Also, any info regarding the timeline would be much appreciated. I heard that the first semester is about forming teams and idea generation and the second semester is about operating the business, which isn’t much time. Thanks again.
I don’t have any sorry. My son spent a morning there last year where they were educated on the program by some oactual FME students who just completed their first year.
They basically go thru everything. Brainstorm for ideas, agree on idea. Select job titles. Pitch ideas. Raise capital. Design product. Get product produced, everything from logo design, picking packaging, design web site, literature, promotion etc. Then they try to sell it. After that whole process the winning team gets to use the $$ for their charity of choice, where they go and volunteer a bit. Then they actually go thru the process of shutting the the whole thing down, liquidating everything.
I sat in a great presentation with FME people and the kids involved said it was demanding, fun. enlightening, and totally worthwhile. In some cases it helped the kids finally choose a career path they found interesting, and others to switch career interests because they didn’t like what they were doing in their group project.
It helps to form bonds and friendships, and the kids get to know the professors who work closely with the kids.
Hope that helps some. Good luck.
@RightCoaster Thanks very much. Would you know of the other colleges which offer something similar? You mentioned that it’s possible to get 90% of the FME value for a lot less money elsewhere. Thanks again.
