You can always take it next quarter :)

So did enrolling during another session work?

Nope it didn’t =(

Hey all,
About transportation between LAX and UCLA, are shuttles/taxis able to directly arrive to parking lot 3, and how do people manage this transportation in general? Also, is it necessary to reserve a shuttle or taxi ahead of time?

Here’s some info that might be helpful, which was provided for students participating in the summer institute program, who stay in Reiber Terrace. I don’t know why, but in the following info they didn’t mention an option called the FlyAway bus, which goes directly from UCLA campus and LAX on an hourly basis and only costs $8. The only issue is that it would not be door-to-door transportation, and if you have a lot of luggage, it could be a problem. But here’s a link to more info on the FlyAway bus between LAX and UCLA - [FlyAway: Non-Stop Bus Service to and from LAX (1003097)](http://map.ais.ucla.edu/go/1003097)

If you still need info, you can call UCLA Transportation and they’ll provide details -

TRAVELING TO UCLA

Airport Shuttles
One option to help you get from a local airport to the UCLA campus is SuperShuttle, a transportation van service. One-way fare to UCLA from LAX is about $25.00. You do not need to make reservations in advance. If you arrive at LAX, retrieve your luggage at the baggage claim area and then proceed to the SuperShuttle sign located on the outer island under the orange Shared Ride sign. Tell them youre going to UCLA, Rieber Hall. To return to the airport from UCLA via SuperShuttle, you will need to make a reservation by calling (310) BLUE VAN or by visiting [SuperShuttle Airport Shuttle Service LAX SFO DIA PHX BWI DFW TPA JFK JAX CDG IAD SAN DCA SMF MCI IAH LGA MSP EWR AUS SNA HOU BUR DAL OAK ONT LGB SJC ISP PTP PIE ORY MIA MCO Airport](http://www.supershuttle.com) and clicking on the “Online Reservations” link. The Rieber Hall front desk can also assist you with this.

Taxis
Taxis are readily available at various pick-up points labeled Taxi outside of the baggage claim area at all local airports. Taxis to UCLA from LAX generally cost about $45 each way. Note: if traveling to campus with another person, sharing a taxi is about the same as taking an airport shuttle.

Public Transportation
Several buses pick up and drop off at the UCLA campus. For more information, call UCLA Transportation Services at (310) 825-3618 or visit the Transportation website.

Note
If you are taking a taxi or shuttle from any of the Los Angeles area airports, please inform the driver that you are going to Rieber Hall. The driver should leave you as close to the residence hall as possible. Rieber Hall is located on the northwest side of campus, up the hill from Ackerman Union, Pauley Pavilion, and Drake Stadium. The street address is 310 De Neve Drive.

Yea in terms of transportation, I’ve always preferred Flyaway. Yes it doesn’t drop you off right at UCLA (it drops you off at a Flyaway stop in Westwood, and takes ~20-30 minutes to walk back to the hill). I think this is the most cost-effective option IF you’re traveling by yourself.
If you’re coming with groups of people, then SuperShuttle or Taxi would be helpful - they drop you right at UCLA, and you split the cost with the people in your van.
An amendment to what carsch posted above, if you live in De Neve Plaza, you can have them drop you off at the De Neve Turnaround: 351 Charles Young Drive West, Los Angeles, CA 90024-1314. If you live in Hedrick Hall/Summit or Hitch Suites, you can get dropped off at the Hedrick Turnaround: 250 De Neve Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90024-1315.
I’m not sure if Sproul Turnaround is going to be re-open (it has been closed down for the past few years due to construction), but in case it does, you can get dropped off of there if you live in Sproul hall or Sunset Villege: 350 De Neve Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90024-1387.
If you live in Rieber Court or Saxon Suites, or if you can’t get to Sproul Turnaround because it’s closed, then you can get dropped off at Rieber Turnaround: 310 De Neve Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90024-1316.
Uh I don’t recommend public transportation, you can probably search a public transportation route via Google Maps or [LA Metro Home](http://www.metro.net/), they tend to take a super super long time … although they are probably the cheapest option.

Did any of you guys talk about AP credits with your new student advisors? And as for planning for classes, did you guys use Class Planner on the myUCLA page (how did you guys plan for your classes)?

Yes, you will talk about AP credits with your NSA. In fact, when you meet your group, you will be given a form to fill out and on it, you list all your AP classes and scores. I used the class planner on myUCLA, and almost everyone else did too. If it’s too complicated for you, I heard ninjacourses.com is an easier alternative.

Ah, okay. I’m in the process of reading all of this stuff for course requirements/etc. and stuff for Orientation. Thank you.

Dammit I tried to and couldn’t! Ahhh hahaha

Hey guys,

I have session 105 and I have a few questions concerning orientation.

Is there anything I should do or have planned ahead of time so that I can setup a good schedule for myself?

Also, is there anyway to know which teachers are open so that I can just Bruinwalk them?

And finally, should I bring my laptop? I just bought it and my mom is against me bringing it. But is it needed and will it help me in any way? (Ex: Googling availiable teachers)?

As always, thanks in advance for your help!

I think the best way to setup a good schedule for yourself is to use the class planner and create several schedules just incase the class you want isn’t available.

I don’t know the answer to your second question.

Yes, definitely bring your laptop. I was against it at first because I was worried about it getting stolen if the dorm door was left open by accident and I didn’t want to carry it around all day. In the end, I brought it and I left it in my room and nothing happened to it. It was VERY useful to me during the 2nd day. I had a friend bring only an touch and she planned her entire schedule on that. She said she should have brought her laptop because the screen was too small and it took longer but in the end, it did work out.

Lol, I like all the tension to sign up for classes. You orientation kids are cute. The NSAs for some reason really like to build it up. You can sign up for classes at around 6am I believe on URSA the day you are supposed to with your NSA, so just sign up in the morning.

Was my son supposed to get his UCLA e-mail address at the Orientation? When do you get this?

i believe emails were given quite a while ago… been using mine since late april
its now on g.ucla.edu

Do we need the Hepatitis B Immunity before Orientation? :S

I don’t think so. I heard nothing about it during orientation. I think you need it before the school year starts.

Ah okay, thanks.
