Back to School Deal: MacBook + iPod Touch

Are they going to update the iPod Touch and redesign it like the new iPhone anytime soon?

Should I buy it now, or should I wait until the end of the Back to School deal in late August/early September? Will there be any other major upgrades between now and then?

They normally do not update ipods until october, or after the deal has ended. If you can wait, then by all means do, though.

The macbook/ipod deal is only good until Sept. 7th. Obviously, this is Apple’s way of getting rid of the supply of the current model of ipod. So, if you’re looking for the combo deal, buy it before Sept. 7th. The macbook/ipod deal goes away after Sept. 7th. The deal probably won’t come around again until the Spring of 2011.

http://store.apple.com/us/browse/campaigns/back_to_school?mco=MTc5NzIzMjU

The deal includes a rebate of up to $200 on pretty much any iPod, so if you buy one that is less than $200 it is going to be free. Keep in mind that the $200 8 GB iPod Touch is a 2nd Generation unit, while the 32GB and 64GB models are 3rd Generation. I think that this may be Apple’s way of clearing out the remainder of their iPod Touch 2nd G stock, but I don’t think that they will be coming out with a 4th G Touch this year.

The 4th-generation OS, now dubbed iOS 4, should be available for the iPod Touch near the end of this month. It should bring many new features to the iPod, although obviously there will still be no camera.

My advice is, if you want an iPod Touch, you should invest the extra $100 that it will cost you to buy the $300 3rd-generation 32GB model. $200 of the price will be rebated to you if you buy the Touch as part of the back-to-school offer. I did just that for our daughter this week. Alternatively, you could buy the highest end Nano for $180, and it will be free and will include a camera.

The deal also includes a $100 rebate on a printer as well, so you might want to get a new printer along with your new iPod and MacBook.

When they update the iPod Touch in October, do you think they will redesign it and add a camera?

Seeing as how the Nano has it, I don’t see why not. What I’m really interested in is if they’ll keep the body or if they’ll redesign it to resemble the iPhone 4G.

If they redesign it then I would definitely wait.

If you REALLY want a MacBook and for some reason you don’t want to go for a Windows-based or Linux-based laptop (I really suggest you do), I’d get the B2S Macbook special, sell the iPod Touch, pocket the $200, then buy the lowest end 4th Generation iPod Touch when it comes out.

Yeah, I’m definitely getting a Mac. I hate Windows with a passion lol.

Thanks for the suggestion! It sounds like a very good idea.
