What’s up! So I attended a college in fall 2014 and I wasn’t ready. I wasn’t mature enough for college yet. I had a massive breakdown and took a break until fall 2017 returning to a different school. I’m doing much better at my new school with a GPA of 3.8. I want to transfer to syracuse, BU, or Umass Amherst and was wondering how my grades in my other school are going to look as a transfer. I stopped going to classes in my first college so I don’t even know what that transcript looks like. Just need some advice or confidence if admissions will actually look at that
Newer grades are more valid evidence of your current abilities. Yes, the places you apply to will see your old bad transcript, but they will also see the new good one.
Order a copy of that old bad transcript for yourself so that you know what it looks like. It can’t be all that horrible because your current institution admitted you even though you sent it to them.
How much your old transcript hurts you is likely to depend upon how long you have been at your current school. If you keep up the good work at your current school, then eventually the old transcript won’t matter (although they will need to see it). There is no harm in applying to transfer starting in Sept 2018, and if you don’t get in they apply again a year later. As @happymomof1 says, your more recent grades are indeed a valid evidence of your current abilities and are a much better predictor of how you are going to do in the future than any old grades from 2014.
Well yeah, I will be apply to start in fall of 2018. So I will have one full year at my community college. But my dream program only takes sophomores in the fall so this would be my only shot ! I’ve got a 4.0 right now. My current institution admitted me because it’s a community college lol @DadTwoGirls @happymomof1
Rounded that 3.8 to a 4 :-c
Not sure if you’re joking, but in case you’re not, don’t do that with a resume, application, interview, etc.
I’m only joking for the thread purpose. I obviously wouldn’t do that for any of the above. I have a 3.8 @bodangles
Schools love to see upward GPA trend, especially if you ended up at a 3.8. Plus, it’s a great talking point in your essays, assuming you can talk about your academic growth eloquently.
Best of luck!
