I’m a high school junior who has managed to maintain my 4.0 so far through high school. Decided to take some PSEO courses at my nearby university and was placed into Calculus 1. Turns out I was horribly unprepared by my high school teacher and I’m on track to finish with a C in this class. What I’m wondering is if I’ve just completely ruined my chances of ever getting into an Ivy League school (or highly ranked school in general)?
Sorry if I sound ridiculous, I’m just slightly panicking right now.
It is difficult to say because top colleges usually admit holistically. It won’t help you if you’re trying for a trippy top school, though. Still, there are plenty - plenty - of excellent schools that will overlook one bad grade.
Did you know that as a college grade, that could become part of your college GPA and it will follow you to graduate school? That’s the curse of dual enrollment. High schools aren’t always good about communicating these sort of ramifications to their students. Personally I think it would be panicking to withdraw and retake the class for a better grade, but that would be a reason to consider it.
Do your best with the remaining time left in the class. Hire a tutor or get help from the professor or the TAs. Ace the final, since that’s usually a big portion of the grade.
I did know that, unfortunately. Still took it anyways, bad choice on my part. Do you happen to know if I could retake the course during university and, I dunno, “override” the less-than-great grade? Or would the old grade still count?
Thank you for taking the time to reply. I appreciate it!
You would have to ask your college advisor, since different schools have different rules.
