so I graduated high school in 2015 and went to university the same year. Long story short I got very depressed realizing what I thought was my life long dream to major in comp. sci. And work for google or Facebook wasn’t really what I wanted. I basically ended up failing and or getting Cs in enough classes to be put on academic suspension after my first year. I decided to take a semester off and decide what I wanted to do in life. After the semester break I enrolled in a tribal college (similar to cc but offers 4yr programs) and successfuly completed 2 semesters with a 3.7 gpa. I am now in my 3rd semester here and completely done with my general courses + a few IT/Engineering related courses after this spring semester. My question is, will I be able to transfer to a decent college with the bad grades on my record from my first school?
I would think so! You have shown that you can do college level work. See if there is a minimum GPA you have to have at the new school…also talk to someone in admissions about your situation. I would consider your state school first or other local schools.
Absolutely! You can easily show that the initial semester grades were because of a poor fit to major or college and that you can perform at the college level. Just make sure you avoid universities which are not a good fit for your interests. You have had that experience and don’t want to repeat it.
I totally understand! Which is why I’m applying to the college I initially wanted to go to to get a BA degree. But my family was against it and so I went to a different school for a B.S. Trying for university of Colorado Boulder. I’ve visited 2 time in high school and once last year. Thanks for the advice, I don’t feel as bad as I did when I posted this.
