I've already been accepted into one of my schools, and my midyear grades are fine. All my apps are in, and I'm just playing the waiting game. My boyfriend and I had thought of going to the same school, but I never thought we'd go to the same place because his grades are much better than mine (he's got a 4.1 UW).

However, he got an F in Calc last quarter and that'll be on his midyear. Do you think colleges will reject him because of it (colleges like Cornell, UPenn, NYU, McGill)?

Even Ivies wil forgive a C in a tough course. However, FAILING is out of the question. He will need to write a letter to the office of admssions explaining why. And yes, they can take away the admission IF there is not a just reason for this MASSIVE drop. 4.1 to failing?!!??!?!?!??!!?!?!? What happened?

"(he's got a 4.1 UW)."

Wanna bet?

well, the 4.1 was for the first 3 years of HS. This year, he just stressed himself out far too much. He got all wrapped up in his extracurriculars...and then BC Calc is just hard to begin with (most people in that class have C's). He's had 5 other AP's on top of that, but then again so do a lot of people. He's not doing amazingly well in his other classes either (B's and maybe two A's).

I was hoping there was some hope left for him...I guess it's a little unlikely though :(

where was he accepted? BTW, I am not trying to be rude to u at all. IN fact, I hope everything turns out wonderfully for him. Good luck and work on that Calculus!

well whatever the problem is, my wishes are out to him. As stated before, an ivy may tolerate a C with a good explanation, but an F is unacceptable unless there was some traumatic distress (family problems, etc). He might as well be saying bye to the ivys. And you might want to tell him that grades are the most important above all else. If an extracurricular is tying him up, he should immediately drop it. After all, he already got admitted.

Well he got into some SUNY's, but pretty much anyone from our school gets into one of those.

hmmm........well, I hope Upenn and the like work out.
