Bad reason to transfer?

I'm currently a freshman at a large public university in a city. I'm about a six hour drive from home. I thought I wasn't going to mind being so far from home, but I'm realizing now that I really miss my family. We are very tight-knit, and while I certainly don't want to spend every weekend at home, it would be nice to be able to see my family more often than a couple of times during the school year. I'm going to be working this summer in a different state, so I won't even be able to see them during the summer.

Is this a bad reason to transfer? I'd like to transfer to an in-state school, rather than staying out-of-state. I could also probably get cheaper tuition from an in-state school.

I also feel like I don't really fit in at my school. It's a pretty big school, and I feel a little lost. I'm also not a fan of how it doesn't really have it's own campus, but is rather integrated into the city. It's not like NYU, but it's definitely not self-contained.

What do you think? I already have housing lined up for next year, but I've also started filling out the transfer applications for a couple of in-state schools...

It’s not a bad reason at all. Life is a very important part of life!

But… make sure you’re not compensating your career too much. The university you transfer too shouldn’t be too much of a step down.

If you ask me it’s a valid reason.
