<p>SATs are an imperfect indicator, yes. However, that doesn't mean that we should just throw caution to the wind and stop using whatever metrics we have. I mean, past academic performance isn't a guarantee of future academic performance, so why should we bother with grades, then?</p>
<p>I guarantee that there is a strong correlation between low SATs and dropout rates. Is that enough to decide policy? Maybe not. But how are we doing the low scorers, who are statistically more likely to drop out than high scorers, a favor by setting them up to fall?</p>
<p>It's almost inarguable that you're better off with a degree from another school than dropping out of UCLA.</p>
