Want to major in Civil Engineering

I'm going to be honest, a 1040 SAT score isn't going to get you into Civil Engineering. You should probably take the ACT or SAT this month if it's not already too late.

but I don't have a 1040, I have 1520(although score is nothing to be proud about)

CR 540 and M 500= 1040. Currently CPSLO is not factoring in the W score.

what's the minimum SAT for journalism? I'm guessing at least 1200?

No need to guess. Go to calpoly.edu and find the breakdown of students who applied/were admitted in that major last year.

I was admitted as a computer science major in Fall 2005 with a 4.0 unweighted GPA (including community college courses) and some extracurriculars (but not as extensive at yours), yet with only a 1140 SAT (570V/570M). So, it's possible to be admitted with a lower than average SAT if your other stats are stellar.

I second what USCArchie said. With one of the highest rated Engineering programs in the country, Cal Poly us really very selective when it comes to Engineering majors. Your ECs are good but they don't carry much weight at SLO either. I think the application only asks about years of work experience in a field related to your major and you type in a number, and a similar thing for leadership.

The good news is that if you are a Jr. you have time to improve that SAT score or take the ACT and submit that.

Unfortunately I'm a senior, so I cant improve my scores
I just got my December ACT scores.
They're low but I think they are a little higher than my SAT score

Composite-22
Math-24
Eng-21
Reading-20
Sci.-23

Also, does being a URM help me out a little
Im half filipino and half Guamanian

I am pretty sure your status as a URM will carry no weight. Several years ago the state of CA passed proposition 209 which outlawed any "afirmative action" type policies at any state funded institution. One of the most outspoken proponants of the new law was UC Regent Ward Connorly, an AA man who felt that it was racist to assume he and other urms couldn't achieve without preferential practices in admisions and hiring.

yeah... thats tough.

just keep in mind that cal poly has a summer quarter of which you can apply. I found out i didn't get in for fall, really wanted to go there, and decided starting school in the summer so i could attend cal poly in the fall wouldn't be that bad...

i got rejected for architecture for the fall, but got in under computer science for the summer..

but now i'm thinking i might change my major. and i feel dumb thinking i should have just stayed home and went to community college.

oh, btw my stats were
Fall
3.65 gpa
27 ACT

Summer
3.77
29 ACT
