Would one bad semester greatly affect my chances of transferring to a UC from a CC? I received a 2.7 one semester and a 3.5 for 2 semesters with 5 semesters left (including summer). That now leaves me at a 3.2. I am a Computer Science major planning on transferring to UC Berkeley (TAP) and all other UC’s with the exception of UC Riverside, UCLA, and Santa Barbara (applying as a math major).
Try to increase your GPA this semester. UCs like upward trends.
You probably won’t get into UCB, honestly - even a 3.5 is low by their standards. I’m sure you’ll get in somewhere, though - UCB TAP will probably help you with that process as well.
If you have 5 semesters left then it sounds like you won’t be applying until next Fall. Be sure to use the TAG program (see http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/transfer/guarantee/ ) since that is a guarantee of admission. The requirements vary by major and campus, but you ought to be able to find one that is a fit and a 3.2 is sufficient for most.
edit: if TAG sounds right for you, be sure to check carefully that you meet all the requirements for the program you select.
