Bad Situation

Ok so here it is I am currently taking Cal 1 and have no hopes of passing it this semester. I was planning on graduating May 2019 and withdrawing or failing this one class will push me back an entire semester since it is a pre req for another class I need to take. At this point I am considering just dropping out completely. I only have 16 credit hours left but I just see myself wasting time by taking one class my last semester. This may also mess up a job I have where I have accepted an internship this summer which is a requirement to get my degree. What should I do??

The sequence I have left to get over is Cal 1 then Busi. Analytics one followed by Busi. Analy. 2. Then just 2 major related classes left. The math classes are part of the required courses for all BA undergrad students.

Talk to your adviser.
Do you understand why you are failing Calc?
Do you need Calc?
Can you take Calc over the summer in an online class?

Talk to your professor and adviser. See if you really can’t pass.

He says I might as well drop the course for the semester I need calc to complete my remaining 4 classes I am a senior

I would talk to my adviser about this…if you are having trouble with calc you will have trouble in those classes. See if you can take it over teh summer.

see thats the problem, I am doing a required internship over the summer that took an entire semester worth of work and interviews to get

Is their an online class you can take? Can you take a night time class?

Dropping out isn’t the answer–you’re far too close.

You would be shooting yourself in the foot to drop out of college because of one class. You need to talk to the academic advsior today and figure out a plan to keep you on track. Office hours, the tutoring center, private tutoring, online, whatever it takes. Don’t be defeated by a difficult class.

Talk to the professor of the course, too. Is there a math tutoring center or anything?

Are you part of a study group? If not, you should be.

Math is actually a visual/spatial skill. I have helped people with math skills by using lots of charts and graphs. Worst thing to do is just learn a step by step process to solve math problems. You get no feel for it and don’t know when to apply what. Also math skills build on themselves. This is why a study group is so essential to learning math.

Don’t drop out. You are so close to finishing. It may seem like it is all falling apart, but it will be only much worse if you quit now.

Spend more time in office hours with TA and prof. Utilize all available resources. Find some online tutorials or purchase a work book like “Forgotten Calculus” or something similar and use it. It’s a rare student who would do all these things and still fail.
