In my Calculus I class, I am really struggling. I have always been a straight A student, but I will now not be able to manage anything better than a C in Calculus I. This will destroy my GPA as a freshman. Without Calc. I, I would most likely have nearly a 4.0, but with a C in Calc. I my GPA will fall under 3.5. I am thinking about dropping it some time before the deadline tomorrow. If I do drop it, then I will fall to only 12 credits this semester, and I would feel very liberated from working hard only for mediocrity in a class a hate. I am also thinking about transferring to Notre Dame next year, which requires me to have two semester of math in my first year of college. But ND will not accept transfer credits below a B, which would mean that I would be wasting my time and energy for nothing if I stay in Calc. I. It would also only damage my GPA with credits that won't mean anything. On the other hand, I am not a quitter and dropping Calc. I with five weeks to go will surely be taking the easy out. Would it me prudent for me to drop Calc. I right now?

Is Cal required for your major? Are you taking a form of financial aid that requires you to not drop classes? If no to both, then drop it. You can take two math classes next semester (big workload, but if you really want to transfer you’ll work it out). I would suggest taking classes required for your major, like for me Stat and Methods of Cal (a lot less work that Cal).
