Hey folks, I was wondering just how much extra merit aid this would provide me. I know it's dependent on FA and need, etc. but I was looking just for some numbers and such. I just recently switched my first choice school to NYU, so I'm wondering if I would get anything.

sylent,

I am starting to think that what-you-see-is-what-you-get, with one exception. My son got a Baird invitation and on his finaid sheet it lists a (very moderate) "CAS Scholarship." I'm afraid this might be the whole enchilada. I would be happy to be proved wrong by getting a further offer with the Baird packet I assume we'll get after we accept the offer, but...

The exception would be, NYU might offer you the small official NM scholarship, limited to $2k/year, after they process your designation switch. That would be 5/1 or later as I think they are on a calendar month cycle.

Well, honestly, even 2k/yr at this point would be helpful.

I never got a letter for Baird, but I did for Presidential Honors (25k/yr), so I was just wondering if it would maybe stack :p

Thanks for the help!

I just talked to the finaid office today. They were a little reluctant to commit, but eventually allowed that if NYU is selected with NMSC as the applicant's number one choice then the applicant will likely receive a $1k / year NM scholarship from the school.

However comma if the applicant is already getting a corporate NM award, as my son is, then the NM rules prohibit this award. And the counselor insisted that the U would not make this up with another, unofficial award of similar amount as I believe some colleges do to compete.

So. We appreciate the Baird program but are underwhelmed with the aid -- far, far less than yours, sylent. So enjoy what you got, and perhaps another K. We are looking at our options at this point.

Thanks so much for the help :)
