When asking about the capstone tours, I got the info for our local admissions rep. It listed also a facebook site for bama bound students and a separate one for bama bound parents from different regions of the country.

Is anyone familiar with these sites?

My daughter is member of the one for our area. Our local rep sent her the link to join. There was one for me as the parent as well but I don’t feel the need to join that one unless she decides that is where she is attending next year.

My region doesn’t have a Bama Bound group, but when I decided I was going to UA, I joined the facebook group. I don’t know what group the admissions officer linked you to, but right now I see 2 University of Alabama Class of 2014 facebook groups. The larger one will be more active once people decide to attend UA, but one can always join and leave later (or stay) if they are attending another school. I don’t know the benefits of joining a parents’ group, but joining the students’ one was very helpful. I got to chat with a bunch of people before school started and find some roommates too. UA students love to use facebook for clubs, events, and general UA things. I encourage the student to join.

Do the two Class of 2014 groups have the same name? or is there a distinction?

Both have the same name, the one with more members tends to be more active and official. It’s the same with the 2013 groups, 3 if you count the one that got deleted to the scandal of a company creating groups for many colleges with the intent of advertising on them. As for any clubs a student may want to join, they probably have a facebook page, albeit probably one restricted to the Alabama network, which anyone with a Crimson e-mail address can join btw.

I was wondering if joining the parent one would help get info about tours, especially on Capstone Day. Bama being such a big place, if there’s not an official tour as part of the Capstone Day, maybe through the grapevine, we can find out if there’s one going on.

I don’t know how busy the parents’ facebook group is, but I doubt a lot of parents of incoming students have joined it yet. I could be wrong though. There will be a campus tour for parents and the students will get to see their college and probably part of the ferg. UA does have the iTour Bama, which would be a self guided tour if all else fails.

There is a scheduled Parent campus tour on CSday. I believe it ends around 2pm. That’s why I don’t see why it’s a big deal for UA to offer campus tours at 2pm for the OOS kids who won’t have another chance to tour.
