I'm gonna be an incoming freshman for the engineering department for Rutgers and I was wondering as of the school year of 2012, did the gender lock on Mattia change all of a sudden? I knew that on the Housing Site it used to say it was all male, and that's how I knew it was all male, but it's not there anymore. Or was that another dorm?

But anyways, I wanted to know which complex is the nicest. Or are they all basically carbon copies? Also how's the temperature in there? Is it reflectively always cold? hot? For an engineer student (hopefully civil) which one is the most benefactor? Is it better to mingle with the other major kids or should I tend to live with all the same major?

Oh I did want to be in Barr Hall still, so is it possible I can find a swamp with anyone? Do I also need my roommate's consent too?

And what's the main difference between all (BAMM) of them again?

Allen, Barr and Mattia are the same thing. They have the same room size and etc. To me it felt that Metzger was smaller in room size. When i lived in Barr, people in allen, barr and mattia were always hanging out or outside in the middle lawn between the three buildings. Metzger students rarely came over.

I would recommend you stay in Mattia or Barr since there is where most engineers live and have a community to ask for help in classes if needed. Barr is Co-ed but there were probably 6 girls on each floor so it wasn’t a 50/50 boy to girl ratio.

In barr we had an AC/heating unit that we can control but housing controls when heating goes on and when A/C goes on.

Ahh, hmm, well I thought it Mattia was gender locked… But who knows. Barr is some sort of Living Learn Community, whatever the hell that means and that’s where it apparently differs on the site. But when we can control, is that temperature wise and is that to a room or a floor?

All I hope is that they were better than the Lynton Towers. Ugh I had to stay in those for orientation, and it was the shadiest, horror movie looking dorm I’ve ever been into. If it weren’t for the people, and the construction around the place it would have been totally depressing.

I think they put people in Lynton Towers for orientation so that when you get your actual room assignment, you’re just grateful that it’s not LT. (if it is LT, at least you know the deal)

temperature is set for room only but housing controls when those units can set heat and A/C on or off.

For example, if you try putting 80 on the control during sept it will just release regular air not warm or hot air. If you get cold during the hot days you have the option of turning it off or set it to auto where it automatically shuts off and on to keep room at the certain temp.

My son lived at BAMM as a freshman. It was never cold during the winter. During warmer months, it was cool, but never cold. They may have fixed the A/C since then (2 years ago).
