I'm pretty sure Wells Fargo only exists in western states...

The closest physical bank is Wachovia, which is on 9th street right off East Campus. The closest B of A is also relatively close to East Campus (~ 1 mile) next to Northgate mall. There is also a Sun Trust Bank right next to West Campus on Erwin Road next to Erwin Terrace apartments.

There are Wachovia, B of A, and SunTrust ATMs in the Bryan Center.

Someone let me know if I'm forgetting anything but those are probably your best bets. Bank of America and Wachovia are the most prevalent commericial banks in NC.

There was a thread on this earlier in the summer I believe

Biomed6 got of the bank locations. There's also a Wachovia ATM on east campus below the marketplace. I believe the med center also has at least one ATM.

I'd go with Wachovia, since they have an ATM on East and one on 9th Street.

Yes, Wachovia.

Does Duke have its own credit union? Those are often a whole lot better than national chains, imho. I still use the credit union from my undergrad institution (University of Wisconsin Credit Union).

Not that I've heard of. It's possible that the employees have a credit union, but as far as students go (esp. undergrads), I have yet to learn of its existence.

Edit: yup, there's a Duke University Federal Credit Union proudly serving "employees, alumni, retirees, and their family" no mention of students thought.

Right, I just checked eligibility, and current students are not listed. Too bad.

Son uses Wachovia.
