I am, unfortunately, not going to be going to Rice this year, but will be attending the University of Houston. I was wondering from current Rice students what bank they would recommend for out-of-towners like myself. I want a bank with ATM's near attractions like the Houston Museum of Natural Sciences, Jones Hall for concerts, and Wortham Theater Center for ballets. From what I've researched Bank of America and Chase seem to be the best options. What would you suggest?

I recently opened an account with chase. They have a checking account specifically for college students that seems to work pretty well. Chase also has a lot options if you want to pay bills online, and it’s really easy to use.

My only complaint thus far is they charge 6$ a month if you don’t have your paycheck direct deposited into your account (they didn’t tell me about this until after I joined). Fees like that are probably common practice in banking though, I don’t know.

I would be able to give better advice if I had been with them for a while, but I can say that thus far I’m pretty pleased with Chase.

I recommend Chase.

You can’t go wrong with Chase, Bank of America or Wells Fargo.

But, if you do end up transferring to Rice, only Chase has ATMs on campus. I’ve been a customer with them for a year, and I have been very pleased with Chase.

Yeah, I noticed that when I was mapping banks with Google Maps, haha. I think I’m going to go with Chase. UH has one on campus, too, though not near the center or anything. It’s more toward the entrance, but that’s still nearby.

We have Wachovia/Wells Fargo here so had son open the same so we could easily transfer money to him. We were able to get a feature added at the time that refunded his ATM fees, but I dont think that is available anymore.

Chase for sure. Had them for a while and havent had any issues.

We haven’t had this problem with my son’s Chase account. Probably worth giving them a call and see what you can do.

yeah… didnt have that issue either. Dunno

Wells Fargo has an ATM in the medical center, across Main Street.

you could also try ally for a savings bank. Have one account there. They dont have nay branches, so this is kind of a tangent. but it is worth checking out
