wooow return the other one immediately! XD

Spoke with admissions office today. They indicated that they are only sending them out once, not in waves, and all were sent out late last week. My son, with very high stats, has not gotten a letter yet. Hope this does not mean he is not being considered… We are out of state, so hope the mail is delayed :)

shocker ^
10char

good luck maggeidog!!

just got mine today! interview february 28th (a little awkward since i was planning on visiting dc this coming week so idk if i should stay or go back to massachusetts for like 2 days…), what about everyone else? i’m curious about how many interview days they’re having, especially if they’re not sending them in waves…

So how many actually get semifinalist and how many finalists are selected?

Interview dates are February 28, March 5 and March 7.

Received today in NY also. Good luck everyone!

I live about an hour away from College Park (in-state) and I haven’t received squat. I’m first in a class of 319 and I got a 2150 on my SAT. Not that those things should automatically make me a semi-finalist for the scholarship, but I thought I’d be a decent candidate. I’m thinking I probably won’t get an invite.

I also live an hour away from college park and haven’t recieved anything. I have better stats than kids at my school who got it last year, so I would be pretty shocked if I don’t receive anything. I got a 32 on the ACT (equal to 2160), 2nd in my class of about 340, great extracirriculars, great essays, and great reccomendations. The people that I know that received it last year didn’t even get a 2100, but they had similar gpa and similar extracirriculars. I don’t think that it would be fair if people with lower test scores than me got a full ride and I didn’t. Mail normally takes about 2-3 days to reach, so if I don’t receive anything tomorrow, I’m giving up hope. However, my honors mail did reach about a week later from when some people on cc said they recieved theirs.

Does anybody know whether OOS students have an equal shot at BK? Or is there some preference for Maryland students?

My son has a 2340 on SATS, 800s on SAT IIs, second in his class rank. Many extracurriculars. But no letter. Again, we’re out of state.

maggiedog, if I were on the BK committee, I’d have personally delivered a letter to your son on Saturday!

Good luck to your son, maggiedog. Keep in mind everyone that the USPS announced that mail would take an extra day (due to cuts–I believe this took effect 1/1/12). I suspect most folks will receive their letters tomorrow/Wed.

Got my invite today! I wasn’t excited about UMD when I applied but they’re giving me so much attention…I’m really considering it. I even got a handwritten postcard from Eden Garosi If I get the full ride…and don’t get into my reaches…probably going!

Thanks for your support!

bcisaido, thanks for telling me that the mail is taking longer, I’m not freaking out as much anymore

My fingers are crossed for you Physics Man!

@Maggiedog, It’s possible that they’re not looking for near perfect SATs and GPA.

I had pretty average SAT and GPA but pretty good everything else. Perhaps that explains it? It’s the only way I can rationalize their decision to give me BK semifinalist. I’m also out of state.

Remember that CP doesn’t look at writing right? So its your 1600 score that counts

Does anyone know if a fair amount of the Honors College students not invited for a BK interview, receive either the President’s or Dean’s scholarship?
