I wish EA were an option as well. Sigh.

Anyone start the Barnard supplement yet? Or even the Com App? I should probably get a move on things.

Yeaa Harry Potter fans!!! I was even called Mrs.Potter in elementary school lol! Hmm makes me want to reread the whole series again :)

EA would make Barnard… perfecter! lol!

@KaiserinSisi: Hmm a good spanish soap oprea… well i like channel 47’s (Telemundo) soap opreas, but right now im watching a novela called Rosario Tijeras (Telefutura) which started around 2 weeks ago, but its pretty violent& sexual. I dont know about other novelas at the moment because I only like watching 1 at a time (they are normally 4 months or longer).

I am so mad that they cut Donde esta elisa for only half an hour lol

I wish Barnard has EA so much! It would make things so much easier. I’d do early decision for sure, if it weren’t for the financials…if anyone knows how good they are about FA let me know!!!

I haven’t started yet on the application. I’m letting myself have a relaxation period before the Common App comes out August 1st…then I have to get it into gear! I didn’t know the supp was out yet?! Awesome, I might actually start then.

Harry Potter ftw. I was so into George and Fred Weasley. I liked Ron, too, but for some reason my favorite characters from day one were the Weasley twins. I always pictured myself hanging out with them ahaha. I was one of those kids who actually waited for the mail on my 11th birthday…and then was distraught for a few hours that I wasn’t going to Hogwarts :(

I got so bored at work last night that I started the Barnard sup, haha. Too bad I can’t bring myself to study for the ACT.

I’m proud to say that I am one of my school’s most prominent Harry Potter nerds. I actually dressed up as Harry for Spirit Week this year. And I’m pretty determined to start a Quidditch team when I go to college.

@Lucyloves That first paragraph describes me so much, minus the student-exchange in Chile. Everyone thinks I’m such a nerd for reading them in Spanish. It’s great to know I’m not alone. ;D

And I fifth that Barnard should have Early Action.

@mdh625 Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll see if I can find them. :D

@aspheric I haven’t started much yet. I’m still agonizing over the common app essay. I have a more unique idea that I’m having difficulty writing and that doesn’t show as much of my personality, and I have a less unique idea that I’m having an easier time developing and that does a better job showing my personality. Whenever I ask for advice, everyone says to go with the more unique idea, but I’m not sure how to develop it. It’s very frustrating. Ugh!!!

@RootBeerWriter My favorite was always Neville, although the twins are right behind him. And I’m still waiting for that owl. I’m sure it just got lost. ;)

Hi! I’m new!
I loveee Barnard, I’m thinking of applying ED.
SAT = 2150 (not amazing but passable I think)
I’m working on my subject tests
I’m really interested in barnard’s fantastic dance program-- any other dancers on here?

And my favorite HP is Remus (the book version. . . don’t know how i feel about the mustache) and yes i dressed up for HP7 release midnight parties at barnes & noble haha hp nerds unite!

Hi Jaden!

Your SAT scores are better than mine (2020), if that makes you feel any better. ;)

Remus is awesome! He’s right up there with Neville and the twins. I never got to go to the midnight parties at Barnes & Noble, but I did get to go a Harry and the Potters concert before the midnight premiere of the 6th movie. :D

better than mine too (2110) haha
ALSO do you guys know how Barnard is on their AP policy

Here ya go ethereality4: [AP Credit](http://www.barnard.edu/registrar/AP_Credit.HTM)

oh whoops i should of just googled it but thank you!
do you know if freshman english is mandatory like a lot of other colleges or can we be exempt from it with ap scores
the site just leaves the box blank so i’m guessing we can’t but does anyone have input on this

BC 2011 here!

I was admitted ED with a 2120, for what it’s worth.

I also ended up with 18 credits from AP classes. It seems like they take anything if you got a 4 or 5.

Good luck, ladies. (:

ethereality4, freshman English and first-year seminar are both required regardless of AP scores. They’re small (<16 people) classes and as a science major, I really enjoyed them.

So, who’s excited for the Common App? It should be available tomorrow, right?

yep tomorrows the big day! haha i don’t know if excited is the right word. . . but something like that
But I’m definetly excited to submit the application and (hopefully) be done with college admissions.
i know this has been covered a bunch of times on cc but how is it really between barnard/columbia undergrads? Because honestly I’d be very proud of going to Barnard and a couple of jerks won’t make a difference for me at this point, but i’m just wondering what is the situation like as a student?

The Barnard/Columbia thing is all hype and no substance. People get to college, grow up a bit, learn to laugh at themselves, and no one really cares what your diploma will say in the end.

Any antagonism will mostly be found on the internet, in the comments section of campus blogs. People do that to get a rise out of Barnard students. Whatever.

Hey everyone! So I didn’t even think I would be applying to Barnard. I spent a lot of time thinking I wanted to be a vocal performance major, and that I would completely forgo the liberal arts, but after a lot of thinking and a spectacular visit to BC I realized that being an opera star is probably not the most realistic goal (it’s but a dream…sigh) and that I am TOTALLY in love with this place. I’m wondering if there’s anyone else here interested in the Music or Theatre programs…they’re both thrilling to me. New York is the place to be. As long as I can be around the arts in life I’ll be happy, and Barnard is such an empowering school for young women. =]
Also, does anyone know anything about the Music or Theatre programs?
Alllsoooo…can anyone maybe tell me what they think my chances are? Here’s an impromptu resume:
-3.79 unweighted GPA
-32 ACT composite with 9 in writing or 31 composite with 10 in writing
-Member of select acapella group since 2008 that has toured Italy and performed at both the MENC All-Eastern conference in 2009 and the ACDA Eastern Conference in 2010
-Also a member of two other school choral ensembles of larger size
-Ranked 1st Soprano 2 at PMEA All State Chorus (Pennsylvaniia Music Educators Association)
-Co-Captain of school color guard (45 girls total in a 423 person marching band)
-performed in lead roles in school plays and musicals, also directed and assistant directed shows for Studio Theatre
-1st place winner in the Central League Writing Contest in 9th grade
-2nd place winner of the 2010 Edith Garlow Memorial Poetry Contest, High School Division
that’s all I can think of at the moment.

Thanks guys! I’d love to learn more about everyone applying to this wonderful school. Hopefully Barnard can open its doors to me and help send me on my way into a life full of music, beauty and success.

I’m glad to hear that there isn’t much to the Columbia/Barnard conflict I’ve heard a bit about. :D

Hi Hannah! I would definitely love to do something with the theatre program here. I have been in love with theatre since I saw my first show in middle school, and I’m finally starting to actually plan on auditioning for my school’s show this year. I’ve been considering it since freshman year, though I always chicken out. I’ve heard great things about the art programs at Barnard.

I can’t say for sure what your chances are, sorry. :(

That’s okay! =] Yeah, I’ve heard great things about it. How bad can it be, being in NYC? I was just up in the city for the night, and it’s just so alive with art. I can’t wait to send in my application, I’m thinking of applying ED.

I’m considering applying Early Decision, as they’re my first choice, but I’m scared of the financial aid situation. Anyone know if they’re stingy on ED financial aid?
