@kaiserinsisi I guess not…apparently there are already different supplement questions up than last year. I was just going by what my tour guide told me this past Friday.

Oh man, I’m already so in love with this school. I haven’t even visited yet (going tomorrow). Nothing much to say except… gl everyone! P:

@hannah, Ok, thank you. I was a bit worried for a minute.

@shay, Hi! Good luck on your visit! Are you interviewing too?

KaiserinSisi- No, but I might. Do you know if an interview significantly helps you? I actually don’t even know if I’m applying ED or RD yet, 'cause ED is more competitive… ?

shay33, definitely interview if you have the chance! An interview lets admissions see you in another dimension (i.e., other than what you are on paper). It’s really a great opportunity to let your personality and passions shine through!

And regarding ED vs RD, even though the admit rate for ED is higher than that of RD, I’d say the applicant pool is pretty self-selecting for ED.

shay33, did you call and make an appointment for the tour?
online it says they’re not necessary but you can, so i’m confused x__x

@shay I agree with aspheric. Unless something goes horribly wrong during the interview, it can only help you.

I don’t know much about ED since I’ll be applying RD for financial reasons.

mysteryflavoured- thank you!

shay- i just called the number and explained that i wanted to schedule an interview. They were very nice on the phone and my interviewer was really easy to talk to and not intimidating at all. I agree to itll just show how interested you are.

ethereality- No, and I think most people didn’t call, either. On the site it says that tours start either 10:30 or 2:30 on weekdays at the Visitor Center, so all we did was go to Banard at 10-ish. All you have to do is go to the visitor center (It’s easy to find) and wait in a room with all these people : D
aspheric, KaiserinSisi, Jaden- Hmm, all right, I’ll have to do some thinking first about what to say. Haha. Thanks!

How did you like your visit?

And I wouldn’t worry too much about the interview. I’ve had two interviews, and I didn’t do as well on the one that I was nervous about. I would also suggest that you try interviewing schools that aren’t one of your top choices.

Don’t worry about the interview, guys. I think it’s mostly for you to find out information than for them to pass judgments on you. My interview lasted all of 15 minutes and was pretty awkward. Just come with questions.

KaiserinSisi- It was good! Granted, I don’t really have any comparison since I haven’t visited any other colleges yet, but I liked it. Have you gone/will you be visiting? The tour guide was really friendly and so was the group (which, apparently, was pretty big for a tour in the middle of the week.) There’s a swimming pool under Banard or something, and we kept getting interrupted by crowds of cute little kids leaving after their swim lessons, which was funny. I noticed that they’re doing a lot of cleaning and construction.
mysteryflavored- Okay, thanks. the admissions counselor was talking about how a girl she interviewed this morning had this feminist blog and it all sounded really impressive so I got worried. XD

That sounds great! I find the bit about a pool underneath Barnard really interesting.

I’ll be visiting sometime later this month.

I’m sure you’ll impress the counselor if/when you interview too! Just think of something impressive about you. :D

I live in New York and I love Barnard, and I’m definitely going to apply early for class of 2015! I just went for my tour and interview and it was really nice. Everyone there was awesome and the interview was really chill. The interviewers were just relaxed and nice. As long as you’re the same way, you’ll make a good impression! Definitely come with questions!! Also, the tour was great… the new building is so nice!! You don’t need an appointment at all for just the tour. It’s an awesome place. Hopefully I’ll be able to go there!!

Before I went on this site I thought I had a pretty good shot at getting into Barnard but after reading about everyone here who’s applying early, I’m starting to get a little nervous! haha

Anyways this isn’t really specific to Barnard, but how are the roomate situations? I know that there’s a survey to match you up with people, but does it actually work?

@Jaden239 I’m convinced the director of freshman housing takes the housing surveys, tosses them on the ground, and picks two up at random.

Mysteryflavored, I have to disagree with you. We were very impressed with our daughter’s first year room mates. It truly seemed that the people making those selections truly did consider all the things she wrote on her form, and she loved living with those girls!

I have to disagree as well. One of the reasons I applied to Barnard was because the students I knew there and the tour guide I had were so enthusiastic about their first year roommate(s). Also, I’ve only heard amazing things about the director and how well he does his job. Now, I don’t know my room assignment yet (we get emailed tomorrow…eek!), but I’ll let you girls know how it goes! :)

I was mostly kidding. There were just a lot of bad pairings on my floor during my freshman year, though. It seemed the only thing the girls had in common was that their names both began with the same letter (in at least four cases, on my one hall/floor, myself included)

So I might get to fly up there to go on a tour of Barnard soon…of course I’m quite excited about it! Could I possibly set up a time to do my interview while I’m there?
