Next Year:
AP Calc AB or BC (haven’t decided… beloved calc teacher is retiring so both classes will prob suck >.<), AP Bio, AP Lit, AP Spanish (language I believe) and AP Gov (AP Econ was full stupid budget cuts that won’t let them open a 2nd section).

i am actually not so sure about calc BC, my precalc teacher (who teaches BC) seems to really want me in BC but i dont know, i am good at math but i rather take AB and do well than take BC and do average
plus it will allow me to have more free time and ill probably then take span lit :)

Ew, AP tests! I took the AP Language test last year and it’s really not that bad. The essay portion is pretty much to see if you can write a coherent and organized essay. I don’t remember too much about the multiple choice part though…

The AP German test is going to eat me alive.

ouch AP German that’s rough. My school doesn’t even offer AP German because kids don’t start the language until high school and then get killed on the AP exam.

I wanted to take AP Span Lit next year but, as it seems with everyone else, the recession ruins everyone’s fun! Because of that I’m only taking a few classes in school (AP Gov, AP Lit, AP Psych, some math course, an extra English course, and an independent study project) but I’m doing additional work outside of school (AP World History and AP Art History). I’m really happy with my schedule since I don’t have to suffer through another year of a legitimate science (CHEM, THE HORROR) and I’m just loading up on what I actually enjoy.

I think I failed my AP chem test today! WOOHOO (There goes only 1 grade below a 90 and 0 grades below an 85 for the year in that class >.<)

haha i took a AP Biology test today… i want to slap myself, for the essay part i wrote spectrum instead of sectum >.< but hopefully il only get a point off for that! I just abhor how all my teachers love to giv exams the last week before vacation!

1 more day & hello 9 days of freedom (well not really w/ all the hw but still lol) !!! :D

wow, I feel like a total underachiever compared you all; AP Calc AB/BC, AP Spanish, AP German, AP Chem.
I was going to take AP Chem this year but there weren’t enough students for the class to run. So instead I chose to take AP Bio, so right now I’m taking AP Eng. Lang. and Bio.
I’m just really worried that I’m going to fail the English because I still don’t know how to organize my ideas in 10 minutes. and the teacher just started to go over with us the multiple choice section of the exam, arrghhh.
and for next year I’m trying to take AP Lit., AP Stats., and AP Music Theory (independent study)…I’m still iffy on AP French and I might try to squeeze in AP Gov.,
but I’m not too sure I’ll be able to do that with the major budget cut at my school.
The school’s trying to pass the budget so that seniors and juniors would have two mandatory full year study halls, but you never know so I’m just keeping my hopes up. :)

wow i dont know how people do independent study! i mean with already taking AP classes& ECs, i think if i go and study on my own i would do poorly on the exam! kudos to you girls who can do that!
i think im changing my mind about what i take next year, i think im just going to take calc AB, chem& gov… i was at the arista meeeting today for those who want to run and they say it takes up alot of time so i dont want to be stressing out & have to do the college admissions as well!
what do you girls think? would it seem to easy? not challenging enough? :/

I tend to believe that you should just do what you love…and if that involves those courses, wonderful. Too many people stress about how many APs they’re taking, rather than questioning whether they actually enjoy them (silly silly silly)!
@mdh625 those are all difficult APs and I TOTALLY get your rationale for not trying to kill yourself with an insane work load. 3 (hard) APs is perfectly fine.

Oh so another question! What do you guys think you want to go into (whether that be majoring or career)?

Guys can I ask for some advice?

So I’m doing research this summer at Stony Brook, but I’m having 2nd thoughts. I’ve already been doing research/ research-related competitions for about a year now. I’ve gotten some pretty nice awards and things and I’d kind of like to do something else for a change. The topic I’m going to be researching this summer isn’t particularly interesting; I just took the first mentor I could get. I mean, it’s not completely boring but there are other topics I would definitely prefer.

The problems-- 1)Colleges will think I’m quitting 2) I’ve had this commitment (to both my partner AND my mentor) for a while.

I’d really like to do some volunteer work outside though. Maybe like this nature place for kids that holds camps and birthday parties or working in a greenhouse or something.

What do you guys think I should do?

EDIT: By guys I meant ladies XD I have so many guy friends from the whole doubling AP chem and AP physics thing this year :P. Sorry it’s a habit.

Don’t sweat it, guys pretty much goes for both genders…at least I use it that way.

Anyways…I mean…if this were me I’d honor the commitment because that’s just something I feel really strongly about (gets ingrained early as a choir member)…I don’t think colleges would think you’re quitting since you’d be pursuing something else: they can’t call you out when you just want to broaden your experiences.

If you hadn’t already agreed to do the research I’d say try something new, but as you’ve already made the commitment, I would keep to it…unless you feel like you can talk to your partner and mentor about it and he/she would understand.

Hi, future (hopefully) Barnard CO '15 :D

I was wondering, since we’re at the point where we’re going to have to start making decisions, if any of you are applying ED. Let me give a background on myself- I have visited Barnard, once (not for an official tour- the weekend I was in NYC was Memorial Day Weekend last year, and the school wasn’t open. I have tried to make plans to visit on two other days, but unfortunately the first time I was sick and the second it snowed (rotten luck on my part). The one time I was there I really liked it, and I plan on visiting one more time if I am able. The problem is, I’m not as strong a candidate as some others, so I’m considering applying ED but because of $$ reasons I don’t know if I can.

But aside from that little rant, are the majority of you guys applying ED or RD?

Most likely RD but maybe ED. I’m gonna visit for real (have only passed every time I go to Columbia on Saturdays for SHP) and then decide. I’m kind of leaning toward Columbia ED but unfortunately my stats aren’t very strong.

I just took a quiz telling me that a small liberal arts college would be better for me MULTIPLE TIMES (there were 11 sections and it said that on at least like 6 of them while no other ones mentioned size) than a large school. Then again, Columbia is less pre-professional than most schools. AFKJAFSJK Maybe I just shouldn’t apply ED anywhere.

I’m definitely doing ED.

For those of you that haven’t visited, I highly recommend it.

I don’t think I’m going to do ED because of financial issues.
and also I have other colleges and universities that I’m thinking of, so I need more time to think and pray about it, lol. Like I’m not definate on what I’m going to major in right now, but I know it’s not going to be mathy or sciencey because I’m horrible in math which is funny because all my friends are thinking of going into pre-med, chemical engineering, and such.
Before I was so sure of majoring in music, but I’m second-guessing myself. Thinking of the -ologies, like psychology, theology or something, but do music as well…I don’t know. Sorry, everything I wrote is all over the place, but that’s what’s going on in my head like 24/7. :D

I WANT to major in Chem but I’m so afraid!! Theres still a SLIGHT chance I want to go into pre-med so then if I have a sucky Chem GPA I won’t get in anywhere and Chem is REALLY hard. What I’m hoping to do is get a PhD right after college and then maybe decide after that. If that happens I have no idea when I’d take the MCATs though and then getting a PhD would be a waste. However, I can’t really see myself as a physician. IDK, being like a “normal” (aka doesn’t do surgery) doctor wouldn’t be good for me because I HATE checkups and just like the whole atmosphere there in general and then I don’t have steady hands so I can’t be a surgeon. I was thinking either teaching at the college or graduate level (which would most likely involve research too) or patent law. That’s why I want to learn Chinese. If I want to do research in another country or speak to people in another country for the sake of research… China would DEFINITELY be the best place and then for the international part of patent law China is probably the place to be since it deals with new inventions XD.

Im doing ED.

I am not really an outstanding applicants but I do really wanna go there… In terms of financial issues, I already started looking for scholarships so hope I could earn money somehow although Barnard doesnt give me one.

I wish I can visit but Im in Los Angeles so it costs a lot… ):

well right now i think im going RD
i really like Barnard but for financial aid i rather stick to RD

question: can you have 1 major & double minor? (that would be perfect for me!)

@mdh I’m pretty sure you can but you don’t HAVE TO minor in something to take a bunch of classes in it
