Barnard Class of '20 Discussion

@AdotHAM They email our decisions, but there is a portal where you can track your materials.

Hi guys!

I’m new to this thread but just wanted to say I love our little community on CC- we can all be nervous together! I live on Long Island and love exploring NYC when I can.

Good luck to everyone and I hope we all get in!

Where else did you guys apply?

I applied to a few safety schools in my state.Temple, F&M, and University of Rochester are a few others. I’ve been so obsessed with Barnard that I haven’t been researching them as much.

I applied to F&M, Bryn Mawr, Swarthmore (lol big reach), and a local safety (siena)

Hey, now checking in! Did anyone get an email from their interviewer? When r decisions coming out?

Hey everyone! I’ve been following this discussion periodically over the past couple of months, but I finally decided I should probably post! But, I’m from Ohio and Barnard is my #1 choice as well and the anxiety of waiting is killing me just waiting for the email of when we get THE email! And to answer @TeaQueen I applied to OSU main in state as a safety(and because my parents said I had to apply to one in-state school), and UofChicago(waitlisted), Cornell, Brown, NYU, Vanderbilt, and then a safety in Indiana. But Barnard is the numero uno, so fingers crossed.

I applied to UC Berkeley, UCLA, Spelman, Howard, SF State, UW: Seattle and Harvard. I wish I had also applied to Bryn Mawr–over the course of this year I’ve really fallen in love with women’s colleges.

@MLMarylandB @1077mmm Welcomeee  Gah! I’m so excited and so nervous.

@RerunGirl We actually don’t know! We’re hoping they’ll email us the exact day tomorrow, we have a hypothesis that it’ll be later this week around 7pm est. (According to what they’ve done in the past).

@MLMarylandB I was wait-listed at UChicago too! Honestly though I was gonna get rejected though, plus Barnard is my #1 so I’m just crossing my fingers.

I’m so nervous for decisions to come out, especially since apparently they got a large number of applications this year !!

@extrapeppermint same same same.

I’ve been following this thread for quite a bit so I might as well introduce myself  I’m Grace, applying from Ohio (@MLMarylandB - OSU main was my safety too!) for English or Theatre… Very anxious to hear back! I finally got to visit Barnard in January and absolutely loved it. I’ve tried to avoid ranking schools over the other throughout the process as much as possible, but Barnard is pretty high on my list. So far OSU and Sarah Lawrence are my only admits - waitlisted at WashU and Emerson (for MT), and rejected from Northwestern and BU (both for MT/Acting).

Are we still expecting them to release decisions sometime this upcoming week, or are we thinking it might be later than that because we haven’t gotten an email notifying us of when decisions were coming out?

@GraceMarie88 Hey, another person from Ohio! None of us know for sure, but I think we are all hoping for the sooner rather than later for the decisions to come out.

In the meantime, we can all wait here together! I’m gonna be a nervous wreck until decisions come out so at least this passes the time.

I’m really eager to find out but at the same time I don’t want to know bc I don’t want to get rejected  this is so stressful omg

@MLMarylandB I gotcha. Most certainly hoping for sooner rather here too - It seems I sort of got a wave of decisions last week, and might be in a lull for most of the duration of this week! Now after getting a handful over with, I’m ready for all of them. I’m dying to see what comes next! But at the same time, I can only imagine how arduous of a task it is to handle and process so many applications at any given school. It takes time

At this point, I’m expecting a rejection but I just want peace of mind lol the schools I applied to have just been releasing decisions with no warning so I’m always checking my email at weird times (like right now at 1 am EST smh)

Wholeheartedly agree. It’s almost as excruciating as the “…” on iMessage–except this time it lasts 3 months. xD

So what’d you guys write about for your supplemental essays? I mainly focused on what it’s like to be a black woman in the deep south (not very fun btw) and how Barnard would provide a much-needed change of atmosphere.

I wrote about Chimamanda Adichie which is kinda cliche considering that Im Ghanaian and she’s Nigerian, about a volunteering club I started at my school. My best essay I think was SP2 and why Barnard essays

@RerunGirl Maybe, but Chimamanda Adichie is amazing. What does SP2 mean?

I think my favorite essay was my woman in history essay, which was about my amazing great-great-great-grandma/namesake.

@olivebar I’m curious, did you apply to any HBCU’s?
