Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Student Council (Representative, Secretary, President, Ex-Officio Adviser), MUN on an international level (Vice President), Global Issues Network member, Thespian Society (Vice President, Co-Founder), multiple other minor activities
Job/Work Experience: Marriott Hotel HR Assistant, Marketing Intern at multiple stores such as Pandora, Faro, Ant Hill, etc., Communications Intern at Naf Naf, Translator and Article Writer for ‘Clean City’ environmental company
Volunteer/Community service: Cared for mentally ill children at a Hospital for 2 years, Art Therapy at a special school for a year, founded a project (supported by our Ministry of Education) to promote awareness of the dangers of incest in my country, Grab-A-Bag activity (collected and sorted clothing to distribute to shelters).
Summer Activities: Internships listed above, Stanford Summer Institutes program ‘Courses in Psychology’
Essays (rating 1-10, details): 10 - I showed my CA essay to just a few people, but those included a Dartmouth professor that commended me on the essay and had a few minor changes on a structural level. I’m particularly proud of the essay to be honest, as well as the college specific essay (definitely more than many other essays I wrote for other Ivies and non-Ivies).
Recommendations (rating 1-10, details): 9 - My principal wrote my counselor’s rec as our counselor left mid-year, but I believe in his ability to write rec letters. My only concerns - hence the 9 - were about one of my professors who is a trite writer, though I did (unofficially) hear a snippet of his essay and it was quite impressive (even surprisingly so) how highly he thought of me.

Reflection
Strengths: I’ll clearly bring a lot of new perspectives to the campus. I think what really set me apart was my long term involvement and accomplishments as the SC President, as I had created the first official constitution. My Healthy Future project was my biggest accomplishment, I think.
Weaknesses: May seem a little too strong, perhaps a little too energetic. They might see that as a minus, as I may come off as a slightly too powerful roommate, perhaps even overly competitive even though i don’t see that as one of my qualities. They may also think I’m too rebellious, as most of my application speaks of my rebellion against cultural norms in my nation.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Because of my spirit, my passion for my subject, my one-of-a-kind project and overall enthusiasm
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: So far (no response from Ivies/Stanford yet) Cambridge, UCL, Glasgow, Bath, St. Andrews (in UK) and BU, UCLA, UCB, Barnard, Wellesley, Duke, NYU (in Abu Dhabi) some others I forgot in US, IE and John Cabot in Europe.
General Comments:
I’m open to questions if there are any and please forgive me if I messed any part of this up, I’m a new member!
Hi,
Wow your stats look amazing!!
I myself have been dreaming about Barnard for two years. Literally everything I did was “for Barnard.”
Your SATs are great and being that you have a LD it makes it 100 times better.
I have LD too, dyslexia. Even though you can’t tell when you looked my application I wrote it in my supplement essay. My essays came out beyond perfect.
My application was stellar, if I got to do it over it would look exactly the same.
It was surprising when I didn’t get in I was heart broken(still am), but it’s all a game --and luck plays a big role!!!
Anyways, you are AWESOME regardless of what the addmissions committee decided.

@Dottysari Thank you- you’re too sweet. I’ve had dysgraphia since grade 1, but it’s also the kind of thing that usually goes unnoticed or is written off as “bad hand writing”. Anyway, the kind of struggle we go through is rarely understood or appreciated by admissions, so I chose not it write much about it other than just identifying that I have an LD… but perhaps I should have gone into more detail about it sigh. You’re absolutely right, admissions truly does feel like a game. Good luck where ever you decide to go!!

@Dominicana77 I understand why you didn’t want to write about it, but sometimes it can be seen as a strength. The college counselor at my school told me not to write about my LD, but I’m a risk taker and did so anyway.
I feel confident about it, and if that’s the reason I was rejected then Barnard is not the right place for me.
I don’t see it as learning disorder I see it as a unique way of learning and we should embrace it!!!
Did you decide on a college yet? It looks to me like you have great options!!

Reflection
Strengths: GPA, essays, and my desire to want to Barnard,
Weaknesses: My test scores.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I was admitted through the Barnard Opportunity Program, however, I fought pretty darn hard for my spot, especially after I got deferred ED. I flew out to Barnard to once more prove to them how much I felt as if I belonged there. I think my passion really did it, and I am thankful for this blessing and excited.
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted: Colorado College, U of Miami (Second Semester), Fordham at Lincoln Center, ASU & NAU (safety schools), Waitlisted: NYU, Rejected: Tulane
General Comments:
It was months of hardship after being deferred ED. At times I felt like giving up and just not bothering anymore because I knew the slim chances of deferred students getting in. I was partially surprised when I got in, but am beyond happy, and thankful for who ever it was in that admissions office fighting for me and looking at anyway to get me in (which they did through the B.O.P)!!!
Sadly, I was waitlisted. I plan to stay on it.

Congrats everybody! And you know something funny–yesterday Barnard sent me a view book in the mail. They’re trying to torture me or something.
@kbw5227 Hey, I got rejected too and I received that view book on Saturday. I cried literally.
But you can always transfer into Barnard I hear it’s a little easier to get in as a transfer student. Barnard was my first choice and well somehow I got into Princeton, Juilliard, Brown, NYU, Northeastern. And oddly enough my only rejection was from the one and only Barnard!!!
My application was beyond amazing my essays were crafted in such a unique and cool way.
I’m not really sure what happened there haha. I wish I can do there was an option for an appeal.
But I guess I’ll be in Princeton this fall even though I still rather be at Barnard.
It looks like you got into great schools and your stats are amazing, so it’s Barnards lost after all.

General Comments/Advice/Hindsight:[/noparse] When one door closes, another opens. That’s the case for me this year during this application process; I was in despair after Brown straight-up rejected me in the ED round since pretty much everyone is usually deferred rather than rejected, but I’m very excited to join Rice in this fall!
