Barnard Class of 2021

there’s no separate portal! when decision day comes, you’ll get an email saying you have an update to your application and it’s found on the same portal.

the wait for RD is agonizing!! what other schools are you guys waiting to hear back from?

My D is waiting on Barnard, Brown, Bryn Mawr, Vassar, Mount Holyoke, George Washington, Macalester and Scripps. The waiting IS painful!

I’m waiting on Vassar, UCLA and Scripps, and I’m going CRAZY.

im waiting on Barnard, Bryn Mawr, Connecticut, Dartmouth, Haverford, Lafayette, Mount Holyoke, Smith, Union, Vassar, Washington and Lee, and Wellesley. i seriously cannot wait.
if i dont get into Barnard i really want to get into Wellesley or Vassar. what about you guys–what are your top choices?

My D is waiting on Barnard, Vassar, Mt Holyoke, Bryn Mawr, Colorado College (later today, assuming no as a local), Skidmore. She got an early write from Smith, waiting on aid/scholarship info. I think she will likely take Smith if Barnard says no, but if Barnard or Vassar say yes it will be trickier.

I’m completely stuck between Vassar and Barnard, so I get that. Not really expecting anything from Barnard, but if I had to choose it would be insanely hard.

what would you say you like the most about vassar and barnard?

I guess the thing about Vassar is that it’s been my dream forever–my mom went there and there’s no pressure to go there but I love the sense of tradition. But in terms of stuff that applies to everyone, I sat in on some classes when I visited and they were all amazing and the perfect learning environment for me, the campus is gorgeous, and I loved how passionate everyone seemed to be. With Barnard, there’s obviously the location, but beyond that I just loved the vibe that I got from everyone who went there–again, everyone was so passionate, but also super welcoming and obviously so in love with the school.

Someone might have talked about this already, but is there an expected date that decisions will come out?

For ED they sent out an email on dec. 8 about decision details and they were releasaed on the 13. Do you think the same thing will happen?

@clepay Having had family members that debated between Barnard and Vassar, what did it for them was the presence of the university across the street. Columbia University has fantastic resources, which really makes a difference. From libraries to course offerings, you have all the resources of a major research university. Plus New York City. Depending on how you feel about “city living,” that could be good or bad but for most students, being at a college in New York City is a major “plus”.

@exlibris97 That’s very true! It’ll be a very hard decision if I get into both, but I’m kind of leaning towards Barnard at the moment.
