@worriedw I’ve toured Columbia and it’s AMAZING! I got a peek of the Barnard campus but not much more since this was before I knew I loved it. My tour guide took classes there and he said it’s a supportive but much smaller campus. Everyone at Columbia was great too so it’s overall great! I recommend getting in touch with your area’s admissions rep and calling their office to get in touch! Forging connections is important.
@TheElusiveGod and we’re excited to meet you!
I got my admission officer’s card from the woman who did the information session, and I’ve kept in since mid-october. When do you all think is a good time to contact her? If I did, what would I even say?
i emailed mine in October after we met, but in my email I just thanked her for coming and mentioned how I was going to sit in on a class in the spring and take advantages of all the opportunities Barnard has for high school students (I live in the suburbs of NY, so it’s really easy for me to visit)
I’m a little late to the party. But I’m also applying ED and doing Summer in the City. Barnard is a great school, it’s good to know others like it too. Most people have no idea what school I’m talking about when I mention it lol.
Hello potential baby bears!
I’m a Barnard 2020 student. If you have any questions please feel free to message or ask anything here. I love helping potential students
@jeanduck yeah nobody knows what Barnard is, but I LOVE IT!
@mayaic4 congrats on getting in! Why did you pick Barnard & did you do Barnard Bound or summer program? What’s it like getting in? <3
@easytiger I picked Barnard because it was in NY and because of its connection to Columbia. Columbia was actually my dream school, but I visited Barnard during their fall preview and felt comfortable and decided I wanted both. Barnard allowed me to take advantage of columbia’s STEM programs because I study math, as well as study abroad and sports and everything else.
I didnt do Barnard Bound or any summer programs. Had never heard of Barnard until the fall preview and had to apply.
It’s obviously great getting in if you know where you want to be. I applied ED and was actually deferred, so getting in was that much better for me because I had counted myself out and convinced myself that deferral was just code for rejection.
@mayaic4 thank you! I’m really happy you got in! How do you think you did on your app? Did you get any special help?
hi friends!!! super nervous and excited and trying to decide on whether or not to ed (i’m in the same boat as worriedw) but it’s so good to see so many other people who are just as eager as i am lol
@easytiger I think that my app was fairly competitive. I went to a really well known prep school in Connecticut and had some different ECs to me. I felt that my essays were fairly strong as well as my test scores and recommendations. I think it was as strong as I could make it based on my other stats, like nothing that I had the option to control negatively impacted.
I had no special help outside of my school’s college counseling office which all students were required to meet with their counselor and stuff. But as for outside organizations or anything, I wasn’t involved with that.
hi i just joined CC!! hope i’m not too late!!!
This hasn’t been posted in for over a month but I just joined CC and saw this thread. I’m in LOVE with Barnard and applying ED this fall for 2022… hope I’m not too late to this thread.
No, but I’m going next year (hopefully) and I plan to apply for class of 2023!
this thread hasn’t been posted on in a while but I’m going to join this anyway in hopes that people will start talking here again!!! I really want to apply to Barnard ED this November…it’s so nerve wracking.
question: Why is Barnard your top choice, for those of you who are applying ED?
Hey guys. If you’re new here, we have a group chat about Barnard we use instead of CC. If you want to join, just send me a message.
Hey!! I’m so excited and thrilled to be applying to Barnard. I can’t imagine myself anywhere else, but here. My grades are top in my school but fall really low when compared to other countries…also have you guys started the essays?
And what do you think? What is the type of Woman Barnard is looking for? Also, why is there so much hate over Barnard-Columbia relationship, it just goes on and on
Jealousy.
In terms of academic environment and student life, Barnard students are generally getting the better end of the deal. They got a lot of personal attention and support from their faculty, and more academic freedom for course selection than Columbia College students.
