I have a 27 act & 3.95 UW (4.04 W) gpa. What were your stats if you were accepted this school year into Barrett?
Average is a 3.6 so you’re more than likely fine.
33 ACT
2260 SAT (on the 2400 scale)
GPA of 4.75 weighted/4.0 unweighted
However these are above the averages that they told me when I visited.
My daughter’s stats:
ACT: 34
SAT: 2300/2400 (1600/1600)
Weighted GPA: 4.67, Unweighted: 4
2180 SAT.
3.7 UW GPA.
Is the average really 3.6?! I’m considering applying- Justice Studies/Social Work path, 2160 SAT, 3.44 UW GPA (10 APs, 3 honors), relevant/great ECs. But, again, my GPA
@freezycool - According to the website, the average UW GPA is 3.8, But my middle son was admitted into Barrett with just a 3.52 UW GPA, but also 33 ACT, 13 APs passed (4.54 average score), decent extracurriculars, extremely competitive high school. I think you’d have a good shot.
@Beaudreau my application is currently under review, hopefully I’ll have enough time before the priority deadline to get recs together- do you know what sort of recommendations they want? Are they super thorough or check-the-box type deals? Congrats to your son :)!!
Your SAT will let you in. Well what’s math and reading combined?
@freezycool I don’t know the specifics, except that I do know that ASU admits first (which comes pretty quickly) and then Barrett follows after receiving the required essay and required letters. ASU admission will be pretty automatic for you.
@Jr12317 it’s 1450, 730 m 720 r.
@Beaudreau I’m looking forward to the essay prompt being released- writing is an on/off talent for me so let’s hope I own it haha!
Getting recs might be a challenge. I’m thinking of getting one from my summertime boss, she has an interest in public health and my selected major is global health.
Academic one… I’m not sure. It’s a little early for senior teachers, and my closest junior teacher is already doing my common app recs
Anyone know what the format is for recommendations?
@freezycool. You should be able to get your junior teacher to sign another one for Barrett.
@Beaudreau is the rec like the common app one, where you can just attach a previously written one? (and, while I’m here- I applied to U of Az honors as well. Any clue as to what my chances might be?)
Do you guys think I have a good chance?
My SAT Is 690 Math and 590 Reading. (1280 Combined) But I am taking it one more time in October so it could be higher than that.
My UW GPA is 3.74 but with a huge upward trend.
@freezycool - Don’t know. UA Honors is smaller and harder to get into. The new honors dorm (Arbol de la Vida) is beautiful).
@RHSciassof16 - Barrett’s 2014 average was 1300 on the SAT and a 3.8 GPA. https://barretthonors.asu.edu/about/facts You should be good.
@Beaudreau ooh, funny, I thought ASU was more selective! As you predicted, admissions was automatic for me (got in a few days ago!), buuuut I’m worried about the essay for honors- wish me luck!
@freezycool Good luck! My son at Miami got into Barrett within a few days of submitting his essay. Arizona does not require a separate essay, but it took a month or so before he was admitted to UA Honors (he did not have to write the additional essays normally required for reconsideration. It’s just a bit more selective 1349 SAT/3.86 GPA
1349 vs. Barrett’s 1300/3.80.
Miami’s Honors Program is quite small and very selective. My son did not get into Honors until April. I can’t find any kind of Honors profile, but the average Miami student is not that far behind that average UA or ASU Honors student… On the other hand, Miami is much smaller than UA or particularly ASU and the college really focuses on undergraduates. Everyone is in a living-learning community. Overall, I don’t think being in Honors is nearly as important at Miami. FYI, if Miami were a PAC-12 school, it would rank about 5th overall after Stanford, USC, Berkeley, and UCLA. http://collegeapps.about.com/od/theact/a/pac-10-conference-act-scores.htm In the Big-10, Miami would rank in the upper half with Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Ohio State, ahead of Iowa, Indiana, Purdue, Nebraska, and Michigan State. http://collegeapps.about.com/od/theact/a/big-ten-act-scores.htm
@Beaudreau oooh! I wish I’d had a higher GPA- but it’s a little late for that. Honors at MU doesn’t really matter to me but I’d really like to get into the programs at UA & ASU- I’m also applying to Ohio State (not honors) and U-Minnesota (doubt I’d be invited)- since my GPA is so low, I wouldn’t be too surprised to get a no.
