Is it a good prep book or not? Some people seem to swear by it... but others say that there are errors on nearly every page and that if you don't catch them, you are screwed because you will study incorrectly? Which is it?

its good… but you have to be careful with it
i did princeton’s review, then kaplans, then barrons
i got an 800.
barrons is great.
dont worry about the book part of it, do like a Xiggi’s method with it.
then go back into the book if you dont know stuff.
also, put the equations in your calculator, the barrons book explains how. it speeds things up and your prep wont be about memorizing.

Um I used it for review and got an 800 but I didn’t feel like it prepared me that well… if I was doing it again I’d prolly just get the PR they always seem to be good. If you have unlimited time to dedicate then maybe barron’s is good, but a lot of it is frivolous

Barron’s was the only book I used, and while I didn’t get a 800 it wasn’t Barron’s fault, but mine I thought it did a good job of reviewing, but their practice tests are a waste.

i am not a math genius. at all. i actually have a lot of problems with math. when i saw my 800, my jaw dropped. and i owe it all to rigorous studying that was sent over the top by barrons.
review your answers carefully though, cuz they make A LOT of mistakes.

by errors, i mean that you circle C, then you get it wrong,
WHY? you think, did i get it wrong. the answer guide says D, but that makes no sense. then turn to the answer explanation, and the explanation will lead towards C, but it will say D there.
thats what i mean by errors.

"also, put the equations in your calculator, the barrons book explains how. it speeds things up and your prep wont be about memorizing. "

u can do that?? Aren’t they supposed to clear ur calculators or something it kinda sounds like cheating. If you can put equations in can you put other “content” into your calculator?

Barron’s is rly misleading, but it’s rly good in the same way. I did Barron’s 4 math 2 prep & I got so scared cuz I got so many wrong & nvr finished. But then I got a 790 on the actual test. Barron’s is just supposed 2 be a lot harder than all the others 4 math. It rly prepares u if u think about it cuz u learn 2 do all the rly hard problems in a short period of time.

"u can do that?? Aren’t they supposed to clear ur calculators or something it kinda sounds like cheating. If you can put equations in can you put other “content” into your calculator? "

they dont clear your calculators. putting notes in your calculator wont help you much since math is all about problem solving

if cost isnt an issue then get it to skim thru the topics/ look at it in the bookstore. write down the topics youre shaky on and review it in your schools textbook or something-- theres absolutely no need to do the much harder practice tests in barrons unless youre concerned about time and are a bad test taker.

thats just what worked for me. i did have issues with time, but the curve is so lenient that full concentration on each question is much more important than answering everything-- i left about 4 blank but that turned out fine

Even though the questions in Barron’s book are a lot more difficult than the ones on the actually Math II test, the book itself prepares you pretty well for the exam. It kinda forces you to learn the concepts. I was able to get an 800 on the test with the book, and I came out of the Barron’s diagnostic with like a 630.

^Would you say to just tack on about 100-150 points to your Barron’s score to get the real thing? I got a 540 and 490 (O.o …) on the practice tests…math isn’t my thing but that seems a little ridiculous. (I just finished calc this year, too.)

The difference between your score on Barron’s and the real test varies. I was around the 700 range for Barron’s and got a 700 on the actual test in June - I just made a bunch of mistakes… Generally people say Barron’s is anywhere from 50-100 “harder” - but it could be more or less depending on the person - I would say Barron’s is much easier if you’re good with a calculator.
