Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes. Had I not had a brother in college it would be about 42,000 on a 160,000 income level
Intended Major: Bio/Environmental Science

School Type: Public
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Girl
Income Bracket: 160,000
Hooks: I was a recruited athlete, but had the grades, ECs and personal goals to back it up

Reflection: It was a really great process. The people at Bates really seemed like people rather than an institution, if you know what I mean. When I needed help bringing down my financial aid to something we could manage, one person at the financial aid office spent over half an hour answering my questions when it was way past his time to go home. Basically, we were able to find that some numbers were wrong (due to our errors) and they were very prompt about revising their aid package. I’m actually looking forward to dealing with them in the future because I know it will be a fair process, at least in my opinion and experience.

Also, I did not realize this until the last week before admission notifications, but in addition to submitting online financial aid forms and information, you must also snail mail them physical copies.

Good luck you all you guys who are still applying to colleges! Bates was my second choice originally, but I know now that it should have been my first because I can see now that it will be a much better fit for me athletically, academically, socially, and in regards to opportunities local and abroad. Really, I’m really glad to have finished this process and I wish you guys all the same luck.
