Bathrooms

Hi everyone. I'm planning on enrolling at Columbia University as a freshman during the fall. I know there's been threads on this, but can somebody please rank the residence halls in terms of how good the bathroom is? I prefer to have a private bathroom (reading other threads... the type where only a few people from a suite(?) share a bathroom as opposed to the whole floor shares a bathroom). I prefer single sex rooming/floors but I can deal with co-ed. Bathroom takes first preference xD

Thanks :)

Only thing close to private bathrooms for first-years is a Carman bathroom shared in a suite between 4 people.

After that, I’d say Furnald has the nicest floor bathrooms, followed by Hartley/Wallach and then John Jizzle.

Hartley/Wallach will have lower people:bathroom ratios than Furnald, but they will be co-ed bathrooms.

Carman is a better situation than any of the others. You can leave your toiletries in the bathroom and use a towel rack, since it’s only shared between 4 people (and between 2 people, for one suite per floor - the 02 line).

All first-year dorms have their bathrooms cleaned weekly by Maintenance housekeepers.

Furnald has really nice bathrooms, really never gets full, 3 toilets and 3 showers for about 13 people (boys room and girls room on each floor and about 26 people total per floor), Carman’s nice…if your suite mates aren’t pigs (I’ve heard some interesting stories), Hartley/Wallach I don’t know much about, and John Jay…ew, just ew. My freshmen year (2006-2007) there were people who got stuck in a John Jay bathroom 'cause I think the door handle broke or something. Wasn’t there personally, just saw the pics on facebook.

The LLC bathrooms are definitely livable, but Carman definitely is the best situation.
