Well I've enrolled at CMU and will be entering this fall. Just wanted to know what the bathrooms are like...

Well I wanted to know specifically about Donner, Mudge, Stever and Morewood Gd. E tower. And how will Boss House be?

I lived in Donner before they refurbished them and they were kinda rough, but they’re pretty nice now (at least they were when I last visited them a few years ago). I think most of Mudge’s are suite-style where you only have to share with a few roommates. Stever (had to google it to see what that was) probably has bathrooms similar to its bedrooms. Small but nice. Morewood is probably similar to Donner.

Thanks a lot. I’m pretty much deciding where I would like to stay based on the bathrooms…

I think Mudge is mostly taken by upperclassmen unless they’ve changed things recently. Stever is likely a high choice by a lot of students since it has AC, but Donner’s got the biggest doubles on campus. Pretty much the worst thing about Donner is how far it is away from Oakland, since if you ever want to grab a bite to eat off campus it’s that much farther of a walk.

All of the freshmen-only dorms have the traditional college style bathrooms, though. A row of sinks, a couple of toilets, and shared showers. Dunno about Stever and Morewood, but Donner had curtains between each showerhead. I’ve heard of some dorms at other schools having glass doors or walls similar to bathroom stalls, so it might be possible they have that.

Mudge will be an all freshman dorm next fall; it’s been converting over. It does have suites rather than common hall baths. And FYI all shared bathrooms are cleaned weekly.

Stever used to be called New House until this year if you search old posts for info.

You can see room pictures and floor plans for all dorms from here:

Just click on the dorm you’re interested in. You can even do 360 degree tours! I don’t think there are pictures of the bathrooms but room schematics do give you an idea.

Man, they just converted Donner a few years back too. Have they been expanding freshman enrollment a lot the past few years (also, totally bogus they made Donner freshman only but not Scobel).

My D was in Donner her freshman year and yes the bathrooms were nice but the building does get really hot. Probably due to the design of the building and the huge windows that let in the sun but do not open real wide to let in the air.

I think they decided it would be best to be able to house all incoming freshmen instead of putting them in lounges and three to a double. The big problem now is room draw; don’t know for sure this year, but last year they ran out of rooms before the freshmen were done. I’m sure everyone got settled eventually!
