I start CCSF tomorrow and Berkeley City on Thursday.

@luvtoolearn- well I went to all of the Los Rios schools, ARC was by far the best, I wish I had been full time there the entire time but it was the farthest from my house (50 min drive). It’s mainly that it was time to move out of my parents house, and I really needed to get into a new environment, not necessarily a better environment, because I agree- I had a lot of wonderful professors in Sac. If I had been able to finish my 60 units in the 2 years, I would have stayed, but I got kinda behind so I can’t transfer till fall 2011. The thought of staying in Sacramento is terrifying and depressing.

Independence is awesome.

snooks…what do you hace at bcc on thursday?

@snooks oh…I have english 1b that day. I guess i’ll pass you in the hall. Did you get your books yet?

@nujabes I wish i could be that funny on purpose!

I go to CSM as well!

Applied to UCB,UCLA,UCSD,UCD

all econ major.

Aren’t you guys at csm glad there was no school today? power outage FTW!

wooo BCC tomorrow…and Laney.

@ Sarah…no, I haven’t got my books yet. I’m in EOPS, so I’m just waiting for them to give me my voucher. I don’t have a lot of books to get, but I hate the fact that my anthro teacher makes us buy books from outside of the bookstore.

@steeze: haha oh if only I had received an e-mail or text. I arrived at CSM ready to go, sopping wet from the rain, covered head to toe in water lol (I take the train and bus), only to realize that school was cancelled due to the blackout. To make matters worse, I commuted back home (again in the rain/wind) and then had to head back to school for a night chem class. This was the only time in my life I was upset that school was cancelled lol!

Yes CSM was indeed closed on the first day. @emilsinclair9: Sorry to hear your unpleasant adventure… you should really sign up for CSM’s emergency text message alert that’s how I was notified of the power outtage or less I would have commuted to school in 2 buses and 1 train.

^ damn u guys travel far to get to school, arent there any closer schools?

^^
I’m pretty sure there are, but out of the community colleges they’re able to attend, I would say the one that we go to is the “best”. I know a guy who communtes to CSM all the way from Oakland, he could have gone to Alameda College, but he says that CSM has better professors aka better learning environment. I guess the people matter too.

Anyone here applying to privates as well? March applications FTW because they aren’t due yet. March applications FTL because you have to do them…

Laney College is in Oakland, and it’s really nice. I don’t know how the academics are (I’m only in 1 non academic class there) but it’s obviously well funded, and the campus is a pretty decent size.

plus it has a BART station…which makes the commute a lot better…

^^
just because a school looks nice doesn’t mean its well funded. I only learned this recently because our campus began construction around school to beautify the campus. It seemed like the money could have gone to academics, but the money actually isnt allowed. once money is granted for like, say construction, the “money” stays in the “construction” account and isn’t allowed to go elsewhere. or at least that’s what my professor told me when a student asked why are they making the campus more pretty when they can spend it on providing more classes.

don’t quote me on this though…im just sayin

@CalBearGuy: Actually I don’t live far from CSM at all… It’s only a 12-15 minute drive, but public transportation, Samtrans sucks especially for me since I live up in the mountainous hills and plus I have to walk up two hills just to get to the bus stop for the 1st bus. =[

@steeze- oh I’m with you on that. My old CCCs passed a ballot measure to give the schools a bunch of money for campus improvement right when Schwarzennegar made all of those lovely cuts. All of the campuses were cutting enrollment, classes, services, etc., all the while building parking lots, renovating library buildings…it was obscene. That being said, I’ve been very satisfied with my music class. There are 5 music classrooms that are well equipped with instruments, and about 10 practice rooms, each with a piano. I was really impressed to see all of that at a CCC. As for the academics, I can’t comment, but I can’t imagine 1 or 2 campuses miraculously escaping the effects of the budget cuts.

Anyone from De Anza go to the honors program seminar to talk with the Cal rep on Tuesday? I was there and I was like…“so many kids don’t do their own research and ask stupid questions.”

^^
isnt that what the seminar is for? to ask stupid questions and get em answered? haha
unless you couldnt get your questions answered due to the amount of stupid questions, that would be a different story.

i find that at seminars/meetings/etc for transfer students, often the information isnt new at all to me.

has anyone gotten word from any colleges they’ve applied to? anybody still in the process of applying as a fall 10 transfer? Cause i am. lol
