BB question

Can anyone explain to me why pg. 647 question number 8-- the answer is B??

Passage:
The science fiction masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey will probably be remembered best for the finely honed portrait of HAL, the Heuristically programmed ALgorithmic computer that could not only reason but also experice human feelings and anxiety. Surprisingly, perhaps, computers have in some ways surpassed writer Arthur C. Clarke's and film director Stanley Kubrick's vision of computing technology at the turn of the millennium. Today's computers are vastly smaller and more portable than HAL and use software interfaces that forgo the type of manual controls found on the spaceship that carried HAL.

Question:
The author's attitude toward the "portrait" (line 3-- in the thread, its line 2) is best characterized as one of

A)resentment
B)appreciation
C)confusion
D)awe
E)derision

Thank you in advance!

I believe it’s B as well simply because all of the others are way too “extreme” in terms of what they are expressing and considering the fact that the author took no particular stance of negativity towards the portrait/HAL. He was also not overly positive about it or “confused”.

So B does seem to be a reasonable answer…
